The world comes back into focus slowly the next morning when I open my eyes. It starts out as blobs of color dulled by low light. Blinking rapidly I work to clear the sleep from my eyes. I try to reach up to rub my face but my arms feel heavy like they're weighed down by a wet blanket.
"Hey, hey, stop." Lex's voice cuts through the density in the air. I open my mouth to respond to him but my mouth is dry and rough, like sandpaper.
"Water," I say, my eyes focusing further to see that I'm lying in my dorm room. Jade and Brooklyn are both sitting on Jade's bed looking on with concern etching their features. I eagerly gulp down the water Lex hands me before he takes it from my hands.
"Not too much."
"What's going on?" I ask, searching my mind for my last memory but coming up empty-handed. My memories feel tangled and smudged. I'm unable to see the picture clearly no matter how hard I try.
