"We bereaved are not alone. We belong to the largest company in the world—the company of those who had known suffering."

I didn't have the heart to tell Bruce about Mimi. It was that thought that woke me up in the middle of the night.
My eyes were heavy, and my head was aching. My entire body was numb, but I appreciated the much needed sleep.
Jace had fallen asleep on the floor.
He had set up a sleeping mat and a pillow. He curled in a ball.
There were no extra blankets.
Yet he covered himself well and was fast asleep.
I knew he had put a sleeping pill in the drink he gave me. But I had no complaints.
Getting out of bed, I pulled the blanket and wrapped him in it.
I tiptoed and made it out of the room as quietly as I could.
The apartment was small and cozy. Although he already knew me enough, I think Jace thought I would judge him for having a tiny place.
