Jace's POV
I chose to drive on the way home; my muscles were tense from holding the wheel so tight. The image of Amiel and Ryan laughing together kept on popping inside my head.
It accelerated my heartbeat, and right now, it was taking every ounce of sanity to keep my eyes on the road.
Amiel and I hadn't spoken a word after we returned to the shooting range. We stayed there for an hour more before deciding to head home. Neither of us talked about lunch or what the plan was for the next assignment.
The forked road heading to the mansion came into view. I swerved to the one we took the long way and entered the secret tunnel leading to the second garage where Amiel kept her car.
I glanced her way. She was looking at the window.
Her fingers were drumming on her thighs.
I debated whether to say something just to break the ice or if I should let the silence stretch.
