Bruce held my gaze. He smiled and then bowed before taking his leave. I waved goodbye while he got into his car, the vehicle honking before it sped away.
I had done my best to tell him to be on high alert. His daughter's wedding was not something I could ask him to postpone.
Although, ideally, that would have been a smart move.
But it was beyond my power to ask him to do that. I could pay for all the expenses they had already spent.
However, that wasn't the issue. Other than alerting the other side if the wedding was suddenly called off, I know how important this event would be to both families.
I'm not that heartless.
Besides, I couldn't tell Bruce the nature of my job. Gratefully, he didn't need much convincing.
When I first proposed to him that I wanted to live independently, the first thing he did was find me a personal bodyguard. But I declined.
