It was just two months after the wedding that Vanessa received a package that was meant for Henrietta from a dispatcher.
"Where is the gift from," Henrietta asked curiously.
"I don't know but it must have been a well-wisher or something, we can't be sure though," Vanessa replied.
"Can I get a knife or something?"
"Sure," Vanessa replied as she looked around for a sharp object to use before she found a pair of scissors. "Here you go." she handed the knife to Henrietta.
"Thank you," Henrietta said as she cut off the ribbons.
"And what do we have here." Vanessa moved closer to Henrietta as she opened the box to reveal a blood-stained scarf and a letter written in red.
"What the hell is this?" Henrietta screamed as Vanessa brought out the letter and read it out loud.
"I AM COMING FOR YOU."
The next day after the argument between her and Jibola, Amina was in her kiosk arranging her goods when Jibola ran into the house with two men right behind him. Amina quickly packed her goods and locked herself and her child inside the kiosk because that was not the first time Jibola runs into the house for refuge after causing trouble outside but this time it was different the police traced him home for injuring a man at the garage.
"Madam there is nothing I can do about it. The person your husband injured is still unconscious in the hospital and the family members are not taking it lightly at all."
"Please I am not ignoring the fact that he did something wrong. Can I at least bail him?"
"Your husband is not granted bail. He might even have to show up in court."
"Ha! Please is there any other way you can help me?"
"I am afraid there isn't."
Vanessa was more than worried about who sent the message she received for Henrietta at work. "Could it be that girl that almost ruin the wedding?" She paced back and forth deep in thought. "Red lipstick is a woman thing." She laughed hysterically before sitting on the chair to sip her wine. "You are not coming for us, baby. I am coming for you," she smirked before bringing her phone out to call CJ. "To my office now."
Henrietta was on the balcony enjoying the evening breeze and that has been her normal routine since she got married. She stays alone even when Damola is around. They sleep in different rooms and they don't speak on the dining table.
"You cannot keep on avoiding me Henrietta," Damola said as he joined her.
"What is wrong with you exactly I don't understand." He added as Henrietta sipped her wine.
"Henrietta don't push me too hard because you won't have me asking this question again." He said sternly.
"She sent a threat to me," Henrietta said.
"Who?" Damola asked confusingly.
"We both probably know who ruined my wedding."
"Are you still on this wedding thing Henrietta? Don't make me feel like I owe you more than an apology, please. This is pure contract dear."
"Thanks for reminding me sir but even if this is a contract you should have at least made my wedding worth it."
"Like I called Jessica to come and ruin it."
Henrietta snorted "The point is your ex ruined my wedding. You ruined my wedding."
"The last time I checked I saw your low-life boyfriend at the party. What do you have to say about that?"
"You only have a choice to make Henrietta. It is either you stick to the contract and I will make you happy or you stay angry like this and you lose me." Damola said and left Henrietta outside.
Everything was going well in the office till Henrietta got to a newspaper with Jessica's picture on it declared missing. "This girl must have a lot of enemies." She whispered. "Susan please get me a cup of coffee."
"Okay, ma." Susan left the office and Herietta continued with her work just for Vanessa to enter with a bright smile which Herietta can't fathom the reason for it.
"It's good to be happy." Henrietta thought.
"Have you seen the news today?" Vanessa asked excitedly.
"Yeah but what is up with the bubbling?"
"Our enemy is missing," Vanessa laughed.
"I saw it just that I don't wish her bad."
Vanessa rolled her eyes and stopped smiling. "Do you think that babe wishes you good? If care is not taken she won't stop at destroying you and I don't think you want that?"
"Most definitely not but at the same time her doom should not be my cause of happiness."
"You know what let's forget having this conversation, you are vexing me."
Henrietta looked closely into Vanessa's eyes just to be sure of her assumptions. "Vanessa please tell me you don't have a hand in this."
"Really! Seriously! You are making silly assumptions about me when you should be thankful to whoever took her."
"Okay, I am sorry. I just want to be sure." Henrietta was still talking when a call entered.
"Hello, ma. Miss Amina is here to see you ma."
"Let her in." Henrietta looked at the door waiting for Amina to enter.
Vanessa looked surprised when she saw Amina walk in. "Ha! You are pregnant again!"
Amina could not look into Vanessa's eyes because of the shame that came with her stupidity and carelessness.
"Vanessa please can I have a moment with her? I will call you later." Henrietta said and waited for Vanessa to leave the office before offering Amina a seat.
"Jibola was arrested yesterday." Amina cried.
"Arrested for what?" Henrietta asked unsurprisingly because she knows the kind of person Jibola was in the ghetto and she had never wished to have anything to do with him if it were not for Amina's stupidity.
"He injured a man at the garage and the family said they are not going to release him till he settles the hospital bills."
"Then let him settle it."
"That's why I am here ma. Please help me." Amina cried.
"Amina look at your life. I warned you times without number to stop following that useless guy but what did you do?" Henrietta asked angrily.
Amina went on her knees. "Please help me." she pleaded.
"I will help you. I will get a lawyer to work on his case and I am not assuring you that he won't get to court. He has to and probably his sentence will be shorter than expected."
"Thank you Sister Labake. I am grateful." Amina thanked her just for Susan to enter and the tea in her hand almost spilled.
"Put the tea on the table and leave," Henrietta said and waited for Susan to leave.
"I am not Labake, I am Henrietta." She faced Amina.
"Okay, ma."
"I will help you but only on one condition."
"What is that?"
"You are going to leave Jibola."
