In the afternoon, the case entered the closing stage.
Luke really didn't enjoy organizing tedious case files and closing procedures.
He used the rest interval to head to the police gym for a workout—having a strong body was essential for a cop in Los Angeles, and the gym wasn't crowded during work hours. Both he and Little Black were regulars.
To avoid a staffing shortage in the squad, the two usually staggered their gym times.
"Hey, Luke, I knew you'd be here," came the voice of Deputy Chief Reid from not far away.
"Chief, you're here for a workout too," Luke said, feeling a bit guilty.
"I rarely exercise during work, I'm here to see you."
"Is there a problem?"
Chief Reid tossed Luke a bottle of water, "I'm here to congratulate you. You did a great job on the Abu Gela case; even the precinct chief praised you."
"Really?" Luke had seen the precinct chief so few times he could count them on one hand.
"Of course."
