Chapter 112 - Operating Theatre

" Nurse help Kim get ready, she is the donor.

"Dr Gordon I will be in the theatre with you.

"Whatever you say sir.

"Mark the surgery is going to last for four hours,if there's any complications it will extend to six.

"I think your friends should go and take rest it will really help them.

"Yh you're right.

"Guys you heard what he said, I will update you if anything should come up.

"But how can we...

Angel don't be stubborn, Mark cut her. "Okay fine, we will just find something to eat and come back.

Mark let out a sigh when they left. He was sitting infront of the theatre. His eyes were just fixed on the lights that were on indicating the surgery was in session.

****

We will start by operating on the donor...Dr. Gordon announced.

Nurse insert the needle into a pelvic bone. We need to collect a bone marrow from her bloodstream.

"The nurse did exactly what the Doctor Gordon said. Sir William as you can see we are done operating on your wife. Now it's time to start the important part.

"Nurse check Kim's vitals... william asked worried. "They are normal sir.

Transfer her to a different ward... William ordered.

"Nurse pass me the forceps. "Here you go Doctor. Aurora was positioned sideways. The surgeon began by bisecting her back slightly with the surgery knife. Her nose were covered with a lot of contractions.

William stood aside monitoring her vitals on the patient monitor. The surgery was going on smoothly till they heard the beep sound coming from the monitor.

"Dr. her heartbeat is slowing down... william blurted fraustrated.

Change the contraception to the laryngeal mask.

"Sir it's risky. "Just do it, I'm a neurologist I know what I'm talking about. We don't want a suituation where she stops breathing, remember this the body is linked to the brain. Just continue the process I will monitor her heart and brain function.

"Her chemotherapy doses were very high according to what I'm seeing so why isn't her body responding to the transplant? ... William asked buffeld.

The abnormal cells have spread all over her body, that why it's taking time for the new cells to adapt to her body circulation.

We are done with the transplant, all we need to do now is to stich her back and monitor the process. Her bloodstream received the cells without complications and that was a plus for us.

As you can see on the monitor the stem cells are killing the cancer cells directly. A nurse walked towards Aurora and cleaned the sweat that was forming on her forehead.

The possible complication she might get is infertility. "What"... William exclaimed.

I'm sorry but her body has gone through a lot. The intense radiations from the therapy's and drugs she takes in has caused this to her including the surgery we just performed.

"Even if she gives birth, it will only be one child. She can't have two or more,if she tries she might die through the process. Even with the one child it's a life and death situation.

William cleaned the tears that were flowing on his cheeks, he couldn't believe what he just heard.

"Doctor we need to cut her again..the nurse blurted. "And why is that? Take a look at the monitor the leukemia cells are spreading to her heart, it's going to stop it function.

"No way, hand me the blades. They cut Aurora's stiches for the second time and began the whole process again. Doc they are crowding out the normal cells... William blurted.

Turn on the ventilator... william ordered.

A student in practice asked william the reason why the ventilator is to be turned on.

"Son her heart continues to beat while the ventilator delivers oxygen to her lungs. The heart can initiate it's own beating without nerve impulses from her brain.

"If her brain stops working, that's it she will be dead. "I think there's a problem sir...the student in practice blurted. The nerve impulse is slowing down.

Turn on the extracorporeal machine. Doctor you need to cause a blockage. The new cells are not working fast we need to catalyz it.

Aurora's blood was pulled out and reoxygenated before returning it back to her body. That was a smart move Dr. William.

"I will do anything to save my girl.

"Sir her vitals, we can't get a hold of her pulse.

"Shit, there's only but one way left. Allow me to do this Dr. Gordon.

"Bring in the defibrillator. The nurse brought it in a sec.

"Turn on the AED power.

"Please expose her chest. The nurse did as told. William closed his eyes as he held the defibrillator. "I have done this for years and I've always been successful. Don't be the first person to die in my hands. You're my daughter, you are a Riverson. we don't give up, fight this Aurora. "You have to come back please... William spoke in his thoughts.
