Chapter 5 - Ancient Myth (5)

The dragon sighed in relief she was still breathing, so he wasn't going to have to find another one yet. What? Did he feel something? Better, maybe? The dragon shook the thought away, now wasn't the time. "Move, human, or I will kill you too."

The human that had been pressing its hands to the girl's wound looked up in surprise. "She is dying, I am trying to save her."

"I can see that, which is why you aren't dead yet boy. Now move." The dragon took in a breath like he had never tried in this form.

Something warned the lean man to heed the command of the purple dragon and he quickly rolled out of the way. The wound leaked blood as soon as the pressure was taken away but not quickly enough to kill the child before the dragon acted.

The humans in the inn might not have been able to see the divine wind but they saw the effect. The wound on Shu's back closed and she took a deep breath. The man who had been trying to help her focused on the purple dragon.

"Ow." Shu was still in pain the mind does not recover as quickly as the body.

"Sorry Shu, but I am still not ready to let you go to your family, yet." The dragon found a still intact chair and sat down but the man tensed.

"No, we cannot stay here, more of them will be back, we have to go. We have to go. Come on." The man forced himself to stand. He was tall, for someone in town and lean without much muscle. He looked half starved like most others in the town but he was cleaner than most.

The man grabbed Shu by the hand and pulled her to her feet. The dragon didn't stop him but most of his attention was focused on the humans that stood outside looking at the body of the man he had killed in the street.

The man didn't go for the front door he pulled Shu toward the back. Shu allowed herself to be pulled. After the dragon's healing she could have fought the man off if she had wanted to but she was still a bit dazed too.

The man did seem to know where he was going as they raced through the streets. A call of alarm went up before they had gone two streets but they were far enough away that no one thought they were related to what had happened at the inn.

The man took them to an herb shop. The dragon looked at the different plants hanging on the walls to dry, as the man raced back and started pulling jars out.

Shu walked up to him, "What are you doing? Are we safe here?"

"For now, the lord's guards might come here, but my skills have helped almost everyone in town. So even if the others remember I was there they might not come here right away. As for what I am doing, I am making something to numb the pain in your shoulder. It was lucky the wound was so shallow that your guard to patch you that quickly, my lady. I had thought your lung was pierced at first and you would drown. It isn't like me to make mistakes like that."

It was amusing how humans minds worked to resonnolize divine work. Shu seemed to be the only one that could remember what was really happening. "Thanks but the pain is gone now as well, it really wasn't as bad as it had looked. Also I am not a lady, you could say I am a servant of the dragon master, my name is Shu."

"Oh good I hate royalty. How someone can be divinely chosen and be so selfish and cruel and short sight, I shall never know."

"Divinely chosen?"

"Yes, the lord of this errea is the great grandson of the god war who founded the city. He is always trying to get the men and resources to fight the black flower clan to the north of us. The only reason I am not on the front line is I am to useful here and not built much like a fighter." The man talked to Shu like she had asked the question but the purple dragon got the feeling that the man was aware of him.

The dragon snorted at the story. The man ignored him and continued talking, "It would be safer for you to leave, there is a small village in the mountains that is always looking for able bodied men and women. You should go there."

"Is it just me or is safety always in the next town?"

"Well, how did you think the drive to explore would manifest?" The dragon didn't have a response and Shu looked back at the herbalist. "I am not a lady, but I am going to find my somewhere safe. I think it would be helpful to have you with me, would you like to come?"

"Well," the man looked around the dirty building. "There isn't much to keep me here. I will help you find a safe place, not a lady."

With that the herbalist and the girl started traveling together with the dragon. They slept outside most nights, but the herbalist didn't let them avoid humans like they had been. Most small groups were safe enough to approach. Even more so if there was only one or two men in the group. Women would only let them get near if Shu approached first. Yet almost every time the number of their group grew, men and women who felt drawn to the dragon and followed the herbalist and girl wherever they went.
