In a land not here and a time not now.
God had long ago grown tired of creating things directly. Nothing can surprise and all knowing all powerful being. In his boredom the all powerful god made slightly less powerful dragons. Then he set them free in a galaxy where they fly freely through the stars and barren rocks God had left them to play with. 13 dragons wandered for centuries unsure of what drove them forward. They called each other by the color they shown by in God's light. Overtime they grew into groups and divided the heavens all believing they were the most important to God. One group that spread God's light and fire to the rocks that floated in heaven. Gold, Red, Maroon, Orange, Yellow, Ivory. The dragons that liked the shadows and spread the chill of God. Silver, Blue, Onix, Green, Brown, Teal.
The two conflicting beliefs chased each other around the heavens rearranging the heaven God had built for them, yet they found their power equal in all ways. At least they were having fun playing war in the heavens built for them by God. All that was except the purple dragon. Purple didn't agree with any of its kin. God didn't only give them light, or darkness. God didn't only give heat or cold, he had given us both. If one was truly better than the other why give us both?
The purple dragon saw this and picked a small rock floating around a dim star. While the others raced around their territories fighting and claiming what they wanted, Purple settled on a rock no one else wanted. It didn't have enough water for the ice dragons. The star wasn't bright enough for the heat dragons. Yet there was a good balance. The purple dragon ruled the sky of his small rock sleeping on golden beaches and rocky mountains. No world had life the only life was the dragons themselves. For certainly God had not shared the gift that was his alone in the universe so far.
One day in the dragon's boredom it blew on the ocean to create waves to watch them break on the shore. As Purple didn't believe in the power of heat or cold the breath seemed to be nothing but air. Yet in that air still glowed the power of God a gift given to all dragons with no explanation as is God's way. Purple never thought about what the light from his breath was doing to sea. Until years later green mold came out of the sea. It spread across the land and got the dragon's attention.
At first it all looked the same but as it encountered different terrain it would change slightly to live better. The dragon grew jealous that it could change while the purple dragon was stuck watching time move on. In a fit one day that the mold had found its way into the dragon's favorite cave, the dragon tore it up scraping it away and into a phile. After it was stacked 6 feet high the dragon blew on it again with all its formidable strength.
The mold spread away as expected but where it landed on more mold it changed. The dragon watched in wonder as the mold changed. Where it had been a thin layer fighting itself for space it changed into groups of plants where the cells of each plant worked together but fought for life against the other plants. The dragon that had been annoyed with the mold smiled at the plants.
What else could be done with this power? The purple dragon went back to the ocean. It hadn't tried to swim before but it was no harder than flying through the heavens. In the sea life was easier to build. The purple dragon built more complicated plants, and they spread across the world changing on their own as they grew as well. Never very much but how it changed became even more interesting to the purple dragon. The ocean became ruffer with the dragon swimming around and the plants living, growing and dying.
One day as the purple dragon floated in powerful jet stream of the ocean a piece of seaweed had gotten caught in the stream as well and was floating free. The dragon knew that if it landed on the sea floor it might grow more or it could be prevented from finding ground and die in the salt water. The movement of the weed in the water got the dragon's smile. So it blew on the weed. It changed, became scaled like the dragon, eyes that couldn't blink opened on the downstream side. It turned and looked at the purple dragon swimming around it against the stream for awhile. When it grew tired the stream took it away so the dragon made more and more. They seemed to be the same but after awhile the dragons notice that not two of them were exactly the same, as if God's gift actually prevented such complex things from being the same.
Experimenting become the dragon's newest past time. Not everything the dragon made lasted. Some things couldn't live where it made it the first time but survived when it tried something similar somewhere else on the small rock. Sex came about as life grew on it's own. Once the dragon realized what it was and how it helped the species survive it started playing with how things reproduce. The world became a garden and ate up the purple dragon's time as the others fought. A garden with flowering plants, insects of all sizes, fish and lizards that all resembled the dragon.
Sadly as war always goes, no one can stay free of it forever and it chose to come to purple's little corner. Red and Yellow traveled together they attacked the planet finding the ice at the poles offensive. They stuck at the warmest water planning on boiling it away. The purple hid as the animals called out in pain and terror at a force they were powerless to stop. The pacifist leader prayed that God would make the brothers go away and leave it alone. Yet the two dragons did not go away. They noticed the animals and started exploring the planet. They stayed too long and Blue and Green who also traveled together noticed them. They split landing on the ice caps. Blue took the north and Green took the south, heading towards the equator to fight off the two fire types.
As they moved they brought driving snow and ice, killing many of the species that had not died when the Red and Yellow dragons crashed into the surface. The purple dragon let out a cry in anguish at the destruction. The first time any dragon felt something true about one of the rocks that had been given to them by God. The purple dragon let out a cry that pushed the other four dragons back into the heavens. A power not of heat or cold but of creation. A call with no shape or intention other than to drive the dragons away from the purples paradise.
The four dragons were driven into heaven and circled in wonder at their strangely powerful brother. They forgot their fight for awhile as they circled trying to figure out what had happened. They had not seen their brother in so long that they had forgotten he even existed. That is until he had blown them away.
The purple took to heaven after them, he didn't want to fight his brothers but he wasn't going to let them destroy what he had made in God's world. He was going to kill his brothers. Charging at them with teeth bared.
