Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2 : Experiencing defeat

"Sure. I'll tell her to take it when she wakes up." was the first sentence Isabella heard when she finally started to open her eyes. Her mother was talking to the doctor. Isabella found herself lying on a small, turquoise, half-bed surrounded by medical equipment on all sides. Then, she figured out that she was actually in a hospital.

Mamá! She exclaimed, trying to get off the bed. But, she couldn't. she felt too weak. Her mother turned, to face Isabella. Isabella said in a worried tone, "Mom, what happened!" "Why am I here?!" Her mother came closer and touched Isabella's forehead. "Calm down, mi bebé. Everything's fine" she said in a soothing voice, trying to stop Isabella from panicking. "You just fell during the game and had a little bump on your head. It's ok."

But what about my tournament? my team? Who won?" Isabelle sputtered. "Yeah, about that..." her father began, as he entered the ward, "Someone had to be declared a winner." "And…?" Isabella protested. "Well, the other team won." "Qué!" Isabella shouted, sounding very confused and distressed. "Lo Siento Isabella, (I'm sorry Isabella) but the decision had already been made by the referee. The fall you had was so intense that you couldn't be put back in the game. and, as you know the captain needs to play with the team for it to even have a chance of winning the game."

"But what about one of the kids from the bench. they could have become the captain. right?" Isabella inquired. "lamentablemente, nadie Estaba listo para asumir su papel."(sadly, no one was ready to take on your role) her father answered. Isabella was heartbroken. she felt defeated, and destroyed. the tournament she had been waiting for, for more than 700 days, was the one that they lost, badly. And the whole team lost because of her too. If all this wasn't bad enough, it happened on her very own birthday. the day that was supposed to be full of happiness, laughter, and joy, was now a day full of sorrow disappointment, and regret.

"But," Isabella thought, "what if the opponent pushed me on purpose? What if they cheated to get me out of they game? There have been rumours of them cheating before too. There's no reason why they wouldn't do it again.

"Isabella, my dear," Mariana (her mother, if you've been following along) called out, interrupting Isabella's trail of thoughts. "Yes, mama.." Isabella replied. "The nurse told me you remind you to take your medicine." "Claro, te amo mamá." (sure mother, I love you) Isabella said. "Aww, mi bebé.. yo también te amo!" (aww, my baby. i love you too)

And with that, Isabella's mother and father left the ward. Isabella took her medicine, closed her eyes, and dozed off to sleep.
