Chapter 32 - Chapter 32 - The cave

Just less than a meter away from Ulf was huge...

"Cliff? No... not merely a cliff, but an enormous canyon." Ulf exclaimed.

"We have been tricked. In future, if anyone says that the beasts are just mindless creatures I will choke them to death." Ulf was amazed at how guileful this young moose was.

Even if the wounded beast knew that death was guaranteed, still it would rather kill itself and bring down others in the netherworld too, than become cultivation material for them.

As for the canyon, Ulf had not been informed about such a place in the southern forest. However, it was logical too. In that part of the forest, where he had been chasing the moose, only strong leader rank hunters would be brave enough to come. Thinking that a solely wondering warrior-rank hunter would reach there was something out of reality.

If it was a canyon, there must be a river too. After studying the terrain of this place, Ulf found out that the river was coming from the northeast and then ran through the southern forest toward the southwest direction.

'Looking at the plants, it seems it was raining not long ago. We have covered a very big distance until coming here, so it's not strange that the weather is drastically different here.' Though Ulf.

The rain was an important matter here, because It must be the reason why the canyon was enveloped by the dense fog. Ulf could see the opposite side of the canyon far away but knew nothing about what was happening down there in the abyss. He could see in a depth of 30-40 meters, but not more than that.

Of course, this height was already quite big, but not something that could endanger the lives of beasts. Additionally, such a wide-ranged canyon logically should have more depth.

However, giving up on the huge trophy without giving it a try wasn't in his dictionary. He began searching for any possible way to climb down and check the circumstances there. However, rain made the rock slippery, so Ulf would had to be more watchful.

In order to not be disturbed on his way down Ulf had to stick the Aeglos on his back with a thick wooden rope. After that, He started to go downwards. Ulf didn't have much knowledge or experience in climbing. But he hoped that with his power equal to the leader rank hunter and the sharp mind, would be able to assure himself that at least wouldn't die due to falling off a cliff.

At the start, the rocky cliff wasn't very steep. Step by step Ulf went down. He didn't suffer from vertigo, rather was more fearful of what would happen when he reached the border of dark fog.

'Now, here we go!'

Soon Ulf arrived at the point where an unknown began. The dense fog suddenly enveloped the surroundings and made it very hard for him to find proper spots to set foot on them.

'This fog is very strange.' Ulf was a bit alarmed.

Sometimes he could barely see what was beyond ten meters away even when enhanced eyes were activated. Each step demanded a huge amount of effort, but even after twenty minutes of searching and wandering almost aimlessly in dense fog, it didn't result in anything profitable.

However, he saw something when the density of fog got weakened soon. It seems bright sunlight has taken its effect. More than twenty meters down projecting spurs of rock could be detected. Ulf was certain that he could accurately jump down there, but was curious too if it would be able to endure his weight.

Hop and...

'Hm, it's really strong! Good for me. Then...' As Ulf landed on the stone he noticed that behind him was the entrance of a big cave, naturally formed into this canyon.

He was shocked but soon came to his mind, due to hearing the sound of beasts, which were well known to him.

'What? Don't tell me that after falling off the cliff they still survived. What tough mother f##kers." Ulf cursed.

Even if it was hard to calculate the depth that Ulf had to climb down, it still should be more than a hundred meters. They not only weren't dead but also found this place to shelter here.

However, their sudden appearance was a good sign for Ulf. His effort of coming down here wasn't for nought.

It seemed that in the end he still would have to wild his spear. When he considered that was ready after resting for a little time, headed inside the cave. Because of the fog outside, the inner part of the cave was very dark. Ulf couldn't see or detect anything beyond a few meters with his enhancement.

After moving inside the cave step by step, Ulf could hear more clearly the roars of a male lion and short-faced bear. No other creatures' sound could be heard.

'Are they the only ones here?'

Survival of those two beasts was already a big achievement.

If it was right, then that would make the situation more favourable for him. Two was naturally better than seven beasts in the beginning. But still, not everything was that easy. Both of them were very powerful middle-grade beasts and had the power to produce such strong roars, even though they fell from the cliff.

Ulf was following near to the right edge of the rocky cavern. After slowly walking a few meters in, he could hear them better. They must have been somewhere not far away from him, so he decided to stay in one place and study the condition of the two beasts through hearing.

BAM

BOOM

All of a sudden, after a few rounds of roars, loud voices of the crashes shook the cave. The entire place started vibrating violently.

Eventually, they started the fight. As for the reason for this conflict, if Ulf was right and his nose didn't lie to him the corpse of the young moose must be also here too.

Maybe they didn't show much hostility against each other in the process of hunting, because the main goal was to catch the prey. Now it was time to distribute the body among them, but every one of them wished it for themselves from the start.

At the same time, when Ulf was trying to find out how the fight progressed, he was also regaining his energy and relaxing his body. He had been using the inner qi for more than an hour, which was a huge border for him.

Analyzing the sounds of the beasts and fighting, Ulf concluded that the male cave lion was getting to a more and more disadvantageous position.

The short-faced bear's roars became more domineering, as its opponent started to retreat toward the entrance of the cave and was getting closer to Ulf.

As the fight reached this point, hiding was no longer a solution and the next step was needed. Ulf grasped Aeglos as hard as he could and decided to take a part in the ongoing confrontation.
