Chapter 3 - Push Forward

Diviya's stomach churns again in knots of loss, fear, worry, a devastating sadness and now was Ward's comments and the amount of time he used the word safe only added to her already full plate of knots.

Suddenly it dawns on Diviya, what an FBI agent who is clearly from out of town doing in little old Kahuna heights? This must be serious and Diviya was beginning to believe something more is going on but she had no clue what it was. She just knew this was very grave which further added to her plate of knots.

Diviya tries to console herself and also tries to shake herself up, she has to try her hardest to be strong and get to the station.

She will push forward.

Special Agent Ward guides Diviya and she let him, not putting up any fight. Though she didn't have anymore fight left in her anyway.

They got in a black car and were quickly on their way to the Kahuna Heights Police Station.

With a new determination, Diviya wanted to get to the bottom of this, she wanted to know exactly what happened to her parents and she wanted to know why she is not safe. As she recalled his words "we need to get you out of here safely". She needed answers and she was optimistic that Special Agent Ward will assist her with some answers.

Diviya wonders what she will do if it's not safe for her, where can she go? She had no idea. Not being able to think clearly she gently lowers her head comfortably on the head rest and closes her eyes shut trying to sort through her thoughts and what's next.

But what ends up settling in her mind was the last memory she had of her parents…

For Diviya it was a normal day, nothing out of the ordinary, just another day like so many others. Only today just before lunch she was heading out to meet up with a friend and a friend of a friend who currently works at the Company she was trying to get into desperately for her thesis.

She thought if anyone knew how the tides were turning would be this friend of a friend. Or maybe, Diviya thought she might at least get something useful where she herself might be able to gauge where things were heading.

Diviya wanted to know whether it was in her favor or not. If not she can start putting her second choice of Company into play.

In the end Diviya was a bit too eager that's why she left the house in the first place. She couldn't wait another minute.

Diviya had emerged from her room dressed in a decent blouse, skinny jeans and comfy sandals. She greeted her mom in the kitchen who was currently busying herself with prepping lunch. She leans in and gave her mom the quickest peck on the cheeks and said "heading to that lunch now, bye, will see you later".

Diviya had plan to only go to the lunch and return home right after. "See you later dad", she calls and were out the door.

Diviya had said "that lunch" as she would have already shared her anxiety with her mom, and they talked about it. Diviya and her mom talked about everything. Though her mom encouraged her to have faith and stay the course and that they would hear news soon. It was very sound advice even Diviya had to admit that.

But not Diviya, she just had to know. It has been three days and she couldn't go into a fourth without knowing where she stood.

This would mean the world to her.

The noise from a car door being slammed shut jerks Diviya out her reverie. She looks around a bit wide eyed and startled for a moment then the terrifying soul crushing realization slams into her with full force.

She has reached the Police Station and FBI Agent Ward is looking at her carefully, like he does not want to further frighten or alarm her in anyway.

Diviya blinks a few times, as if she is trying to blink away the tears that are threatening spill furiously. Again.

She gathers some much needed air then slowly exhales, grabs up the straps of her hand bag and flung it over her shoulders. She then quickly peeks around at her surroundings. Eyes looking everywhere it can, then at Agent Ward and tells him she is ready.

Agent Ward safely guided Diviya straight to a holding room. With him almost blocking as much of Diviya as he can. After some protest from Diviya about being in a holding room he quietly explains "if the police station was breached it will be harder for anyone to get in the back here. They can easily get to an office outside of here."

Diviya eyes widen as what the Agent said sunk in. By then he easily slipped out after informing her he would be back shortly. But Diviya did not hear a word. Too busy with the realization of what was said to pay any mind to anything that he said after.

Just as quickly FBI Agent Ward returns, easily slipping into the room, turning and peeking out he looks left and right, up and down the corridor.

Satisfied, he pulls back, shuts the door and slowly walks toward the chair facing Diviya. "I know this is a silly question but are you ok?"

Diviya sighs as she wonders how to answer that question. Was she ok? No, she was not.

"No, I am not. But can you please tell me what's going on?" She really wanted to know if her life was in danger and more importantly, she wanted to know why her parents were killed.

Settling in the chair he leans forward and told her that he need her to listen to him and to listen carefully to all that he was going to say next, it's very important that she did.

Diviya completely freaked by the seriousness of his tone, eyes wide, she then frowns and simply nods. She had no words, or maybe she was unable to form any words at the moment, or maybe she just wanted him to get on with the details.

Agent Ward relaxes back onto his chair and says, "Someone targeted your home specifically, this crew or some might say faction are pretty meticulous in what they do and so they do not make mistakes. However we believed they made one today as I am convinced their main target was you." He pauses to let that sink in before he continues.

Diviya just stares at him mouth opening and closing a few times but no sound comes out. Not a peep. She was in danger, but why? She wonders if... No. It couldn't be.

"Your parents were killed with a bullet to the head each, they did not suffer I assure you. They were dead before they even hit the ground and your room was tossed, it seems like they were looking for something but we do not know what. Also we observed that your parents were branded post Mortem.."

Looking at Diviya he asks, "Ms. Mason, do you by chance have any idea why would an entity like that be after you and do you recognize this symbol?" Agent Ward leans forward and slides a photo to her.

Diviya stared at the picture of a serpent's head with its mouth opened wide, fangs showing clearly with what looks like venom dripping from one fang.

She was honestly drawing blanks, starts to slowly shake her head and continues shaking it as she seems so lost and broken at this point.

Her eyes questioning, doubting, she has absolutely no idea what a faction like that would want with her and all she knew is that she was left at the front door of a church as a baby and nothing she does in her life right now warrants such a retaliation.

But who was she kidding, Diviya has her suspicions as to why, but she herself was in so much denial. She had tried to hide it for so long it seems completely lost to her that she was right. Diviya was right about this and herself.

Diviya has never even gotten a parking ticket or anything. She goes to college, do a healthy amount of studying and mingling. Hit a few clubs with friends or lime at the bar and never had any fights or anything like that so she was lost.

So lost she did not know where to begin to understand why would this entity be after her and yet for the life of her, Diviya could not shake that nagging feeling that she has seen that symbol before.

Where? She cannot remember.

She finally rasps out after Agent Ward gently urges again. "No I have no idea", and then she begins to tell him all the reasons why she does not know.
