I hate it. I hate it to be reminded at home.
I hate it because I miss home so much.
When it starts raining, the people are already running around frantically to avoid getting wet. I watch them from afar and try to ignore the pain that stabs at my heart. It hurts every time I look down at my feet which, while still healing are still sore. Every time someone bumps into me, I wince from the pain in my feet. It's been three months since I got my foot fixed, it hasn't gotten better yet.
The sound of footsteps interrupts my thoughts. I'm so used to running away from the sounds that it barely registers on my ears. I don't bother looking back, I know it's the same man who had held onto my arm earlier. He walks closer until he's right behind me, I can feel the chill of his breath against my neck.
"Are you scared?" He asks me, his voice is low but deep enough to send shivers down my spine. "Of course you are." He chuckles lightly. His laugh is so smooth and calming, I couldn't help but turn around to look into his eyes, his dark green eyes. They captivate me in a way that no other person could. He doesn't wear a hoodie like everyone else does, he only wears black leather pants and gloves. And he's wearing the most ridiculous hat on top of his dark hair. As I get closer to his face, I realize the reason why he seems so familiar to me—he's smiling. His beautiful white teeth shine brightly in the dim lighting, and when I reach out my hand to touch it he laughs quietly. He steps away from me, his hand coming up to scratch the back of his head.
"Do you like watching the people?"
I'm confused. Who did he think I was watching?
"You don't have to answer.: he tells me with a grin, and I just nod in response.
It's silent for a bit, the storm clouds above us block out the sun. The rain comes pouring down, creating a loud pitter patter on our heads and shoulders. We both stand still, watching the rainfall pour down the windows. Finally he speaks with his softly voice.
"I know your little secret." The suddenness of this statement makes my heart beat fast, I know I shouldn't be surprised that he knows, he's a very observant person. The man beside me chuckles at my reaction, his eyes twinkling from amusement. I clear my throat and try to compose myself. I've never really talked to anyone about my past, and to hear someone else knowing means that he might actually care for me.
"What...what do you mean?" I stutter, not meeting his gaze. I keep my eyes trained on the windows.
"My name is Gaius." He says it slowly, pronouncing each syllable perfectly.
He says it so smoothly, it almost sounded like a foreign language, I guess I should have expected that. He doesn't sound like he comes from this island.
"How'd you find out?" I finally look at him. His eyes look so mesmerizing, they sparkle like the stars when the moon shines down its pale light on them. I can see that his face has changed, from the young man that he looked like at the train station to a middle aged man. His hair has become longer and his beard appears fuller. It suits him. Maybe it' s time to stop hiding from everybody. Maybe...maybe this time I'm allowed to let somebody in. He looks at me for a long moment. It feels like he wants to say something else but then his eyes narrow and suddenly he's gone, vanished into thin air.
