Marcus returned later at night. Amelia waited up for him. She tried watching a show to keep her awake but she kept sleeping off.
A knock on the door had her on her feet. She was curious to know what Marcus had gone to do because he had left her confused.
When she opened the door, Marcus walked in. Shutting the door behind her, Amelia followed him into her living room.
Marcus wasn't smiling. He hadn't given her his welcoming smile and he didn't even acknowledge her presence. He just flopped into one of the couches in the room and leaned back against the headrest.
He sighed and closed his eyes. "How are you doing?"
Amelia huffed and came to stand in front of him. "I should be asking you that!"
Marcus cracked an eye open and squinted. Amelia was standing below the light and it reflected into his eyes. Marcus wasn't sure he could take that much light so he shut his eyes.
