Rays of the morning sun crept into the room. She stretched her legs and discovered there was a body beside her. Scared, she sprung up from the bed. His hand stretched to pull her back and she moved further away. It was Gavin.
She tried to collect memories from the night before and they were vague. Split scenes and nothing seemed to add up. "What happened last night?" She finally asked.
Gavin stared at her in bewilderment. "Is everything okay?" He asked, with a mischievous smirk on his face. "Did you not have fun last night?"
Vivienne's face became a full-blown red tomato. She stepped away from her bed, ran into the bathroom, and shut the door behind her.
She sat on the toilet cover, trying to remember in detail all that happened that night. She remembered wanting to leave the walk-in movie and Gavin was insistent on staying. He showed her a list of things he had planned out for the night, and laying in her bed was not a part of them.
"What have I done?" She cried with her face in her palms.
There was a knock on the door and she knew that was Gavin because the bodyguards never entered her room, except on the first day when they did a thorough sweep of the penthouse. "Can we talk?" He asked. "I'll be leaving in a few minutes and I just want to make some things clear."
She stood from the seat and leaned on the door. She could feel his breathing against it and waited till he was away before checking herself in the mirror and stepping out.
She ran back in a few seconds after, used some mouthwash, and came out again. "Sorry you had to perceive that," she said nervously, like a teenager in love for the first time. "Not everyone has great morning breath and it's quite embarrassing."
Gavin chuckled, and if he was doing it to lighten the atmosphere, he was doing more harm than good because she felt more self-conscious than before. "I don't know if they've told you this before, but I'd love to let you know that…" he trailed off. "I don't know how sure I am about this and I know that the circumstances that surround us at this time and season are not favorable," he paused again. He shook his head and stared at her again, with a mischievous lopsided grin.
Vivienne waited patiently for what he had to say. When it seemed like nothing was coming, she sighed and smiled. "You can try again next week, Gavin. I'll ask Eva to put you on the list of the VIP list. Okay?" She tapped his shoulder and walked over to her wardrobe.
"You can't tell me you're going to work after our discussion last night," he said, more like an order than a question.
Vivienne sized him up and continued searching through her the clothes in there. "What's it to you if I do?" She asked him.
He shrugged and she couldn't see because she had her full attention on her clothes. She had a truckload of clothes but still had a hard time finding something suitable to wear. "Can't find anything here. If you need me, I'll be in the closet, and if I'm not there, check the other room," she announced and walked through her closet door, leaving him to the clothes on her bed and the shoes she had involuntarily scattered in search of a particular black pair.
"I hope this becomes easier as the years go by," he yelled and she laughed.
Gavin was going ahead of himself if he thought they were already a thing. With the direction he was headed earlier, she was ready to give him a straight rejection. That doesn't come to his pretty face every day, she silently hoped.
"How about this?" She asked, stepping out of the closet. She held a yellow dress she had worn just once to her body and allowed him to check it out.
Gavin didn't give a damn about the dress. He was concerned with her as a person and what they were going to be after this. He wanted something with her, and that was the reason he waited so long for the meeting.
Vivienne's fears were a lot and too vocal. There was no telling where this was going as long as she didn't get a hold of herself. Was it the start of something beautiful or was it going to be another traumatizing past to look back at?
"You'd look stunning in anything," he complimented and didn't respond. It was the bodyguard earlier telling her the bracelet looked classy and giving his two cents after.
"Is that a yes?" She pressed on. "What do you think about the general appearance?" She waited expectantly, hoping he would say more than he did before.
He smiled and gave a thumbs up. "Yellow is a great color and I think it complements your skin just fine."
Vivienne forced a smile and sighed. It was one of those wars she had with men, getting them to make solid comments about appearances.
She dropped the dress on her bed and continued the hunt for her shoe when the reason for her wanting to get away from Gavin came again. "What happened last night?" She asked.
Gavin flashed his beautiful smile again and gazed at the ceiling as if he was in a trance. "Beautiful things happened," he said. "So many beautiful things happened and you were so sure you were in a dream because good things don't happen often," she was boiling with her eyes wide open. "Then he called you and I answered. He was blabbing about some things that needed your approval and I said he should meet at the office tomorrow, which is today because we were too busy having fun," he ended with a frightened look.
Vivienne opened her mouth several times to speak, but she couldn't find the words. "I think I'm going to throw up now."
