"Cant push it off?" He repeats to himself. "Cant you say I am sick? I caught the Flu or something?"
Miss Marcy raised a brow before clicking her tongue. "What sort of demon catches the flu? If that gets out, the first news will be about how you are dying and before we know it, little ones will be wondering who your wealth goes to. " She was almost raising her voice at him. Ana looks between the two and didnt bother wondering why Miss Marcey is able to talk to him so freely. "Ethan arent you embarrassed to say these type of thing in the presence of your assistant designer?"
She felt his shoulder become tense again from her peripheral vision. He slowly turs his head to glance at her and Ana meets his eyes.
"I.. I dont...." he seem to be struggling for the right words so she helped him out.
"I might ne an extrovert but I dont like people too. Actually i am not that good with people especially the ones who smile at your face and pretend to be kind when the only thing they wait for is to use you and dump you." A disgusted look was on her face when she says this.
Ethan took a breath of relief. He had really being working on being around people. But ever since the war, he just couldn't bring himself to be around people. Humans especially. He couldn't bear being in a an area filled with a wide range of them. How could he look them in the eye after the war that happened because of him? But he didn't bother correcting what Anastasia thought. It was better for he rto think of him that way than for him to have to explain to her why he doesn't like being outside.
"Yes." He replies not knowing why he said yes but Ana didnt push him for more questions. "He clears his throat and directs his stoic expression towards his evil cousin. "When is it?"
Marcey face slaps herself as she reminds him. "Two weeks from now. How can you not know when we attend this frequently?" She got up from her seat and informs him. "Thanks to a particular boss who keeps pushing off physical and very important meetings, I..." she points to herself. "The secretary has to work three times harder than usual."she made her way towards the door but stops after a few steps. "Ah..and you cant go alone. Don't embarrass our family. You have to take a date. There is already the embarrassment that you attend with your cousin so...going alone is a no no."
Ethan turns his head to glare at his cousin. "You just said you are going with your girlfriend. Who am I supposed to go with? Cant we defer it to another time when you are free?" He suggests with what Ana thinks should be a smile although it came out distorted.
Miss Marcey cocks her head to the side for a bit before her eyes land on the back of Anas head and she gives Ethan a knowing smile. The man begins to shake his head. Ana notices his movements and turns her head to look at the woman.
"Ana dear, will you do us a favor and be his date?"
At first, she didnt really process it and just nods her head. Two seconds after, she shouts. "His date?!" Her butt shoots from her seat as fast as she can and clears her throat. "I mean my boss's date? Miss Marcey, I dont think that will work."
"Why not?"
Ethan who was the topic of discussion tried hard to not let his emotions take over him. He had perfected this act. He had learned it really well and for months at that. The youtube tutorilas and shows and on how to be a gentleman man to the girl you like. The videos on how to make her fall for you. He was sure he had mastered it but right now, seeing her wide eyes and the look that said she will rather date a monkey than be his date, he just wanted to put her across his lap and kiss some sense into the girl.
"For obvious reasons, I am poor. I cant afford those exquisite dresses." She points at her dressing and then at her boots.
Marcey gave her a small smile and then looks at Ethan.
"We have dresses here." Ethan says in a small voice.
Ana wanted to glare at him but holds herself back. What sort of a boss is this shy? How can a demon be this shy with people?
"I wouldn't dare to wear them."
"It is fine I dont mind." Ethan resolves getting on his feet. He pulls a measuring tape out of the drawer on the table and turns to her. Holding the tape up, he glance at her body. "To measure."
Ana drops her shoulders. "But...but I dont know how to be exquisite and polite." She racks her brain for other excuses to give in case Ethan solves this one again.
"It doesn't matter. Ethan will be there. Just be his date and save me please..." Marcey pleads with both her palm pressed together up in the air.
"To top it all..." she presses a palm to her forehead. "I tend to be straightforward and blunt. If I see someone dressed ridiculously, I might comment on it rather than hold in my tongue and control it. This wont do. I am not fit for it. Why dont we find some model or a rich mans daughter or a fellow business woman or designer." She suggest with bright eyes.
The tape Ethan was holding was still stuck in his hands as she spoke. His eye color flashed a little red but it was almost not noticeable to Ana.
Marcey quickly informs Ana. "Ana dear, if we do that, then your boss might really die. He hates pretentious women. And most of these women would lie about being pregnant the minute he attends an event with them. He hates people in general. " She adds.
"Except you." Ethan blurts out. Ana gives him a confused look. "You are my assistant." He drops the tape, clears his throat and walks into the other adjoining room where wedding dresses were being displayed.
"Ana please...you will get used to it hun? I trust you two to figure out the dressing. Good bye." She didnt let the young lady give her a response before she hurries out of the room.
Ana stares at the direction Ethan had rushed to and sighs deeply. Why does he act like a child who needs to be protected? Why...does he have to act so innocent? She walks into the adjoining room and finds him staring at a wedding dress that was dispayed in the middle of the the room.
"Boss..."
