“Be quiet.” He whispered slightly against her ear. A rough intake of breath made him pause. “Remain quiet, please.”
It almost sounded like he was begging because he was afraid that her pleas would be too powerful for him to resist. Like he was scared that giving in would build things that he didn't want for them to come to existence.
