I was never one to believe in sayings like the light at the end of the tunnel". Those instances where people would exclaim after having a near-death experience saying "I saw the light" And yet there I was travelling down that very Tunnel.
How did I die though? A car accident? Well, that doesn't matter now anyway. I would have liked to see my sister one last time before I died. But she's a strong girl, I'm sure she'll move on.
But where am I? Is this where souls go after a person dies? It's cold, dark, and empty, I don't see an end to it either. It's almost like nothing exists in this space.
Does that mean I'm just going to drift around in this empty void forever? Well that sucks, If I knew this was what awaited me after death I wouldn't have lived my life the way I did.
I would have lived a life full of happy and satisfying memories, but instead, all the memories I have are those of a sorry excuse for a man struggling to make ends meet in the hell we called society.
But It's too late, having such regrets now would be pointless. All I can do now I drift through this void.
What is this feeling? he asked himself. It's as if all my worries from before are fading away, he thought to himself as he closed his eyes.
"Well, since I'm going to be here for a while, I might as well get some rest" He continued to drift through the empty void, and as he did time continued to flow.
After some time drifting through the void a light appeared before him. It shrouded his body in its radiance and like wind blowing away a fallen leaf, that darkness and urge within faded away.
He opened his eyes slowly "What just happened?" he said confused.
"It felt like I was being drained of all my strength and lost the will to live!"
"That was the effect of the void!" a strange voice said.
He turned around and saw the light. It can't have been the light that spoke, right? he thought.
"Was that you?" he asked.
"Do you see anyone else, mortal?"
"A talking light, either I've gone crazy or I really am dead"
"I am not a talking light," it said.
"Ok you're not a light, but what are you then? God?"
"If you are referring to the being that governs your world I am, but I am also not"
"What the hell does that mean?" he asked with a brow raised.
"How do I explain this in a way you're puny mind can understand?'
"I might be dead, but you know I still have feelings right?"
"To explain what I am I need to explain what your world is"
"I guess you don't care, moving on then", he mumbled.
"Think of your world as a seed, they are planted, grow and one day die. Your world follows the same principle, and that is called a world line"
"What's a world line?"
"It is the progression in time of your world, everything that has happened, everything that is happening, and everything that will happen, from the moment of its birth, till its eventual end. And the being you call God, is nothing more than a set of rules that govern that world line"
"So are you a set of rules as well?"
"No, I am not something as simple as a set of rules"
"So what are you then?"
"I am the one who set those rules!"
"Cool"
He chuckles and says "You are much calmer than I expected for a mortal in your situation. Either you are extremely brave or just so stupid that you do not comprehend what I have just told you"
"Well, I'm already dead and if you hadn't helped I'd have probably stayed that way forever. So what is there to be afraid of? And where is this void you mentioned earlier"
The voice chuckles "You are one of the most amusing mortals I have ever conversed with" it says.
"To answer your question, the void is the space between world lines"
"So like outer space?"
"No, you foolish mortal!"
"Again, I have feelings. So it wouldn't kill you to be a little nicer"
"Imagine your world one as a straight line,"
"And you still don't care"
"That is your world line. Now imagine there is another identical line beside that line, the void is the space between them. We are currently in that space"
"So, what happens to me now?"
"Typically, any lost soul that wanders here would be absorbed by the void and cease to exist, but luckily for you, I happened to stumble upon your soul and saved you before that could happen"
"Thanks for helping me and all, but that wasn't what I meant. I wanted to know if I could go back to my world?"
"If that's what you meant, that is not possible. Once a being leaves its host world line it drifts through the void aimlessly, making it near impossible for anyone even me to find their original world line unless they somehow know the exact coordinates of the world line among the infinite number that exist"
"Damn that sucks! So what do I do now?"
"Since I'm feeling benevolent today I'll help you"
"Oh gee, thanks all-powerful God for your benevolence," He said sarcastically.
"No thanks needed, I'm just that nice"
Nice my ass, knowing your personality you were probably just bored and that's why you're helping me.
"I won't be able to send you back to your original world line, but what I can send you to one similar to it"
"You can do that?"
"As I said, I am much more powerful than any being you know of!"
"What about the rules of that world? Wouldn't they see me as some sort of foreign object and try to get rid of me?"
"Don't worry about that, remember I'm the one who makes those rules"
"Thanks for all your help, but I don't think I have anything to repay you with, would my soul be enough?"
He chuckles "You don't need to worry about that mortal, there is nothing you could offer that would be of any use to me anyway. But since you are going as far as to offer your soul let's just say you owe me"
"That's fine with me, so how are you going to do this?"
"I will place your soul into the body of a child"
"Isn't that wrong? I'd be stealing the life of a child?"
"For a person that was on the verge of non-existence not long ago, you think you can be picky. How about this them, I'll put you in the body of a child that was born with no soul. That way you wouldn't be taking a life"
"That sounds fine. But will we be able to meet after today?"
"You do not have to worry about that, I have a feeling we will be seeing each other before too long"
"Alright, but before I go I would like to know, what is your name?"
"A name... I don't have a name, but for the sake of it you can call me Eldrin"
"You had no reason to but you helped me a lot today and I am very grateful thank you Eldrin"
"You are probably the first moral to casually call out to a like that"
"But I thought we were becoming friends, or would you prefer it if I addressed you as the great one or something?"
"A mortal claiming to be friends with a God" Eldrin said as he laughed.
"That is not something I ever thought possible, let alone thinking I'd be that God. But no, don't change the way you dress me"
"That sounded condescending, but I'll let that one slide"
"You should feel honoured mortal"
I so wish I could strangle this guy!
"You should be on your way," Eldrin said as a crack appeared and from it, a white light radiated brightening the dark and empty void.
"One last piece of advice before you leave, if you wish to survive in that world grow stronger, stronger than you ever thought possible!"
"I'll keep that in mind, and thank you once again Eldrin," he said as he stepped through the crack
