Chapter 2 - STRANGERS

I've been staring at my computer while huffing into my cigarette. I'm wracking my thoughts for anything interesting to put in my novel. I've already written a few chapters, but I'm not sure whether this would suffice.

I don't want to let the company down because of my impotence. I want to do better, and I know I am capable of doing so. I placed my head on my desk, which houses my laptop. 'You can do it. Nobody is going to aid you but you.'

Ugh! If only I'd been born in a different era, I wouldn't be going through this right now! But I had no right to assert or demand that. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for my parents.

I should at least be grateful that I am alive, but I can't, given that I am swamping in debts. I need to stop and rest for a minute. If I don't, my head will probably explode. I inhaled the last part of my cigarette before it reached its end and threw its butt in the bin.

I felt like I was being laid down on a hard mattress. What in the damn earth? Did someone put an interest on me and kidnapped me?

When I opened my eyes, an unfamiliar room welcomed me. Whose house is this? Freaking hell.

This space was dripping with marble and gold! I'm going to stay here and ask 'whoever they are' to adopt me or hire me as their maid, as a worker. I'm sure the pay is good here.

But, come to think of it, where am I? Is there someone who is interested in me? But who? Are they a creditor of my parents'? Would they dismantle and sell my organ on the black market? I live in poverty, yet my organs are worth more than I am...

I heard some footsteps and heels coming towards me. I noticed them. They are an elderly couple. The old guy was carrying a glass of water, and the lady was beaming. I'm not sure whether it's water or poison. I'm sure they want me dead since I didn't make payments.

I won't lie: I find them disturbing. I'm scared to death. I'm not familiar with them.

To be honest, the way they walk, their posture, and how they all screamed in elegancy intimidated me.

Why am I at their home, by the way? I attempted to speak, but nothing came out of my lips. My throat is extremely dry, and it aches.

When they were successfully approaching my zone, I closed my eyes. Tears started to fall. My emotions are completely out of control! Is this the end of me? I sincerely hope not...

"Drink this," says the old guy, his baritone voice dominating the room.

Is this how I'm going to die? by ingesting a poison? I'm not ready to die yet. I can't go out like this. I don't want to be a virgin when I die. Please, Lord, keep me safe.

My organs are in good shape, and they can take my kidney. It's all right, just let me live. If they let me live, I vow not to do anything terrible in life...

I'm shivering with terror, praying they'll let me survive. When I felt a little delicate touch on my back, I flinched from where I was. It was the lady's

I shifted backwards in an attempt to defend myself from them, but they don't appear to be that dangerous. Perhaps I misinterpreted them...

If they had me imprisoned, I should have been handcuffed, right? I should at least give them the 'benefit of the doubt,' they called.

"Ease up, we won't hurt you; here, drink this," the lady says as she assists me in sipping out from water, which I can barely hold.

They didn't leave me unattended after a few minutes of staring at them. They offered me some time to reflect, but they did not depart the room. They must have wanted to talk. After all, we're both strangers to each other.

I gathered my meager strength and sat appropriately. I decided to speak and converse with them. I can't afford to waste any time.

There are duties that I must complete. I still have debts to settle. I can't afford to waste time dicking around.

"U-Uhmm, what place is this? Why am I here?" This place, as well as their clothes, are entirely foreign to me; they didn't appear to indicate that we lived in the same country.

The couple appears to be as oblivious as I am. I'm here, but I'm still not sure exactly what sort part of the world this is.

"This is the kingdom of Cienfuegos; how come you didn't know?" the old man asked.

"The what? Kingdom? So how on earth did I end up in a kingdom, so this isn't really my nation? But I understand their speech, but their accent is a little different...

I'm intrigued.

It's been 48 hours since we discovered you, unconscious in our yard. We also had no idea where you came from or what your status is by how you clothed. " The woman changed the subject by responding to the latter question.

Okay… Things are becoming more complicated. I've been here for two days, and I'm now in the aforementioned 'kingdom.' Based on how you dress, they'll know which family you're from and what your status is. What the hell is going on in the debt mountain? I feel like my head's going to blow up.

I can't contain the this that they are saying, but I need to freaking understand because I need to go home,

"Okay, hold on. First, I need to know, how can I go back to reveille? My country." I bluntly asked them because if I don't, I'm going insane.

"Reveille? What kind of kingdom is that? We haven't heard or had any idea where that is located. " The old man replied.

"Have you known anyone else here? If you don't have, you can stay here." He added.

"You are always welcome in our home. After all, we are the only ones who live here. We can adopt you," The lady offered cheerfully, and the old man didn't even bother to stop his wife.

"Are you two insane? Inviting a stranger into your home? What are you two thinking? What if I do something bad?" This time I didn't stop myself from saying things.

I know I sounded rude; they're offering me their home, but I nearly yelled at them. I'm just not getting it. What if the stranger they're inviting is a shady character? They're not thinking things through.

"I can read people, and you're not like that, are you? My person is also a former lieutenant in the palace, so he meets a variety of people every day. We know you have a good heart," she said.

What does she mean when she says she can read people? My brain cells, I believe, are no longer functional.

"We're not forcing you to stay, but we know you don't know anyone else here and you're not from here, right?" "Might as well stay," he says gently, as if I'm their child. He even tapped me on the shoulder.

"Give it some time to think." You can come down for dinner later. We'll just go downstairs. " The lady stated.
