She squeezes her eyes in horror and cries again with an inhuman pain that I had never before perceived in any person and that without alternative, pierces my chest and my head sinking me too in her sadness and her inoculable overwhelm judging by her sad beautiful eyes. To silence him and to cease his pain somewhat, I put my hand on his temple and lean it against my chest comforting him, letting him know that he didn't need to repeat it to me so that I would understand him.
Amid that sad scene, with the rest of us watching around us Emily continues to cry disconsolately, her body disgraced and her autonomy misplaced. But as if that would make me feel any better, she rectifies for the second time that he hadn't done it. He hadn't committed the major act of rape that would leave her pierced for eternity: "He didn't get to rape me, Nathan, you came before that happened.
