Emily POV
I curse and punish myself on numerous occasions. I go on like this for quite a while and with the effort I manage to relax a little, modulating my tone of voice and getting the tears from my eyes to stop flowing, allowing my conscience to think a little more clearly.
There was no more time.
"There is no more time."
If I didn't do it today, if I didn't muster enough strength to open that envelope now I surely never would. Not with Nathan in the house, not looking into the brown eyes that cast such a spell on me.
"You're strong Emily" And I always had been. Despite being daubed in salt water, I was still the same Emily who had left home at a young age to ease my parents' burden.
She was still the same Emily who had gotten a job and had managed to study and work through every semester.
I took the envelope.
I was still me, and no matter what happened I would still be the same Emily that had me here unique, strong, and independent.
