Mauzarella faces the huge dinosaur. The size difference is considerable, the beast is as big as a three-story building and as wide as a spaceship.
It's clear that it's thinking on how to eat the mouse snack, before going for the main course in the village.
The Ranger knows that she is in serious disadvantage, so after analyzing the situation a bit, she takes her spear, breaks it over her leg and then takes the pointed end as if it were a knife.
Mauzarella: Well, what are you waiting for?
The Great Furious accepts the invitation and begins the encounter by trying to step on the mouse, while she dodges the big claws, running from one side to the other.
In between steps, Mauzarella tries several times to cut the dinosaur until she manages to run the edge over the leg skin; however, the tip of the spear fails to penetrate the thick layer of scales covering it.
Mauzarella: Walnuts! It's thicker than cat fur.
The Ranger hides for a moment to find another way to attack, while the Great Furious looks for her on the ground.
Mauzarella: Let's try something else.
Mauzarella wields her weapon with her right hand and runs towards the distracted dinosaur at full speed. When she is close enough, jumps and stabs the beast's thigh with all her strength, penetrating the thick skin.
The Great Furious notices the prick and turns to see how the Ranger is hanging from its leg, and just tries to shake her off.
The mouse clings with all her might until the tip of the spear slips off the animal's thigh, and she falls to the ground.
Mauzarella: Now I understand why they needed a proton cannon.
The Ranger tries other things, while dodging the dinosaur's attacks; she throws stones at it that only bounce back; she tries to make it fall by putting a log between its legs that ends up breaking like a toothpick; she even tries to hit it with her bare hand, but nothing works. On the other hand, The Great Furious gets closer and closer to landing a bite that would end the fight.
Mauzarella: I didn't want to come to this, but I don't see any other way out...
The desperate Ranger stands in front of the dinosaur, opening her arms as an invitation to eat her. The beast accepts and launches itself with open jaws against the tiny mouse.
At the last second, Mauzarella jumps as high as she can and clings to the animal's nostrils leaving her legs dangling dangerously close to the fangs that are reaching out to bite her.
The Great Furious shakes its head vigorously to get rid of the attacker, who is hanging by her right hand. The beast also snaps its teeth, trying to catch the dangling legs in front of its snout; on one of those occasions, the mouse manages to step on the tongue long enough to push herself all the way up to the nose.
Seeing that nothing worked, the dinosaur then seeks to bash its head against some nearby rocks, to get rid of the pesky mouse.
Mauzarella: I wouldn't do that if I were you.
Near the moment of impact, Mazuarella moves a little higher on the head, placing herself in the middle of the horns, avoiding the rocks and letting dinos' nose take the whole blow.
The dinosaur stumbles as he snorts and whines in self-inflicted pain.
With her remaining strength, the Ranger takes advantage of the confusion, and she hangs from one of the horns to slash through the creature's right eye, piercing the eyelid and leaving the spearhead buried in it.
¡ROOOOOOOOOOOOARRR!
The Great Furious roars in pain and falls to the side, also knocking Mauzarella down, who landed awkwardly on the ground, but on her feet.
Mauzarella: Finally!
Her joy didn't last for long, cause the Dinosaur stood up, almost immediately.
Mauzarella: You have to be kiddin'!
The creature is confused and in pain; it tries to remove the spearhead but its arms cannot reach it. Overwhelmed, the Great Furious decides to flee, taking big and noisy steps, leaving Mauzarella alone with her victory.
Mauzarella: I… I win?
The Ranger throws herself to the ground exhausted from the encounter. However, she cannot take a break as she starts to hear screams coming from the village, so she gets up and runs to find out what is going on.
In the village, some mice that did not manage to take shelter are threatened by the Little Furious who fled from Maple.
Doctor Braun and Hazel lead the group, which is mainly youngsters and pups.
Dr. Braun: STAY BEHIND ME, KIDS! DO NOT TRY TO RUN AWAY!
The Dinosaur appears to be choosing its prey from the group, when one of the smaller mice panics and starts running.
Following its instinct, the beast attacks the fleeing mouse, first by pushing her to the ground, and then putting its claw on her back, immobilizing the little pup completely.
Just before the little one becomes dino food, Maple lands on the foe's back, places her spear across its jaws, and pulls back with all her might, preventing the mouse from taking any damage.
Little Furious takes a couple of steps back and shakes its head violently, trying to get the spear out of its snout, but the Ranger has a good grip on her weapon, taking full control of the situation.
Maple: DON'T JUST STAND THERE, RUN!
Hazel begins to lead the mice, while Dr. Braun picks up the smallest one and carries her away.
Maple: I told you we weren't done!
The Dinosaur snaps the spear by closing its jaw, causing Maple to lose her balance and almost fall off the beast's back.
The Ranger hangs on the best she could as the beast spins around to get rid of her.
Maple: End of the line!
Maple takes what is left of her spear and in a moment when the Furious stops spinning, she holds it with both hands and drives it with all her strength into the back of the dinosaur's head, which immediately falls to the ground, ending the fight.
Maple: And stay there!
Moments later, Mazuarella arrives at the scene, to see that Maple is comfortably leaning on the dinosaur, while Doctor Braun, Hazel and the villagers come out of hiding.
Maple: HEY! You are alive!
Mauzarella: Ha ha, You too!
Maple: They were no problem! Where's the big one?
Mauzarella: Let's just say that from now on, they'll have to call him the Big One-Eyed.
Maple: Cool! But that needs more work… Do you think it's coming back?
Mauzarella: I do not know.
As the Rangers talk, Chief Yoink approaches Mauzarella and stands right in front of her.
Mauzarella falls silent, waiting for the Chief to make the first move, which to her surprise, is to drop to one knee while bowing his head.
Chief Yoink: Thank you, Great Warriors who Raw, you saved my village and my family. How can we thank you?
Mauzarella: It's our duty, Chief, you don't have to thank anything.
Chief Yoink: Today we will have a great feast in your honor. Thanks to you, we will have Furious meat for the whole season…
Maple: GREAT, I'M STARVING!
While everyone returns to their normal activities and prepares the feast, Mauzarella and Chief Matanga speak in private.
Mauzarella: Tell me, Chief… How did you get the proton cannon?
Chief Yoink: The Cat God handed it to us personally and told us that we should attack anything that comes near the village.
Mauzarella: What was that Cat God like?
Chief Yoink: He was big, he wore white fur and I remember he was missing a piece of his ear, which the Mouse Goddess of Fury probably took from him.
Mauzarella: CATNIP!
Chief Yoink: That's how the Serpent Goddess referred to him...
Mauzarella: I understand… and what did they ask for in exchange.
Chief Yoink: It was something very strange, they only asked us to take them to the Ruins of Eternal Silence
Mauzarella: What is in those ruins?
Chief Yoink: Very old engravings, from many cycles before our era.
Mauzarella: That must be it… I mean, I'd love to see them.
Chief Yoink: We'll gladly take them, but I want something in return. Teach my warriors to fight like you so we can defend ourselves against the Furious.
Mauzarella: Deal!
A horn sounds indicating that the time for the feast has come. Everyone gathers around a huge bonfire as they eat Furious' meat, seasoned with the finest local ingredients.
The Doctor tells stories to the little ones, while Hazel admires the warriors of the tribe.
Maple and Mauzarella are sitting apart, watching the sunset, as they enjoy their well-deserved meal.
Maple: I miss sunsets. That perpetual sun isn't exactly my thing.
Mauzarella: You can always go back to Rodentia 4
Maple: With those stickler squirrels? not in a million cycles!
Mauzarella: Well, enjoy these sunsets, since apparently, we'll be here for several days.
Maple: Sounds good to me, I like this simple life for a change.
The sun sets on the unknown planet giving way to a beautiful night, in which, for the first time in a long time, Mauzarella sleeps peacefully.
