The night sky overhead was pitch black, as if a massive curtain was hiding the myriad of stars. Only the silent moon hung, half-covered by threads of cloud. The moonlight that fell was as cold as the evening wind.
This was a central garden, a small circular white stone plaza. Surrounding the plaza were steps of varying heights, with rows of flower beds filled with clustered floral arrangements on the edges. A subtle fragrance permeated through the cold wind.
The central garden served to divide the area, the west side leading to bustling places like Pleasure Street and such night markets, while the east side was adjacent to places providing daily necessities such as inns, restaurants, tailoring shops, and clothing stores. The north and south ends connected directly to the main road, making it a transport hub of the northern part of Florence's Fourth District.
