Chereads / The King's Age / Chapter 3 - The Slum Dorm

Chapter 3 - The Slum Dorm

Hao moved outside the dean's building while Pillard was evilly grinning towards him. Hao didn't care about that at all. He only cared about getting what he wanted.

"Are you ready sir?" The delivery boy was still waiting just at a distance from the building. The moment he saw Hao coming out, he shouted in a happy tone.

"Bring everything…" Hao turned to Pillard who snorted and waved to the delivery boy while the look on his face was priceless.

Hao totally ignored that evil expression while he walked following Pillard without saying a single word. Yet the latter kept speaking non-stop.

"I don't like you, but I have to warn you from the hell you are going to see."

"The slum dorm is a place of hell. No order or peace of mind there. Be prepared, you won't even be able to sleep."

"I can't imagine myself surviving there for a single night. Damn! If it was up to me, I'd kick all of them outside our prestigious college."

Hao let him talk rubbish while inwardly laughing in mockery. The slum dorm was something that was created by one of the shareholders of the college.

That person had her own reasons to do so. She just built a giant building and freely accepted kids coming from poor families and even orphants.

The academy had four dorms in total. One was for the poor, known as the slum dorm while the other three were for the rich kids.

Those rich students came here using the fat pockets of their parents. None of the rich here like Pillard had experienced the real ugly face of this world, not like anyone inside the slum dorm.

So in Hao's eyes, there was no way to lecture someone like Pillard about the big help that shareholder did accepting such poor students. He just left him lost in his delusions, knowing that he would never be in his future friend list.

"So here we are," just after walking for half an hour in the middle of the academy, passing by many buildings which Pillard never cared to introduce to Hao, the two stopped in front of a recent building that was covered with mirrors and looked quite cool.

"Is this the place?" Hao asked, and Pillard just snorted back.

"It's not like what it looks like from outside… What the hell is that?!!!"

Just as Pillard was speaking in his mean way, a giant truck loaded with many things came, and then another one came just after it before a latest edition of a sports car appeared, driven by that delivery boy.

Pillard's face fell when he saw all that. Instead Hao simply pointed towards the entrance of the building as he said:

"Bring everything inside. And leave the car… there," he randomly selected a spot before turning to Pillard as he added, "shall we go into that hell now? I'm dying to see that hell with my own eyes."

"Crazy!" Pillard snapped out after a few seconds as he helplessly shook his head, "man, I don't know where you came from. But… Having a car parked beside the slum dorm? That's just unheard of!"

"It's just a car," Hao shrugged while the delivery boy parked the car at the spot Hao specified before running towards him.

"Here sir," he handed the key chain to Hao, who simply placed it inside his pocket.

"Crazy," Pillard kept saying this while leading Hao inside.

And the moment Hao passed through the big door of the building, a new world opened in front of his eyes.

"Dammit! f*ck this damn team! f*ck you bastards!"

"Do you call yourself a gamer? Come on! You are just a pus*y with money!"

"I hate you! Hate you! Dang! Dang! Aaaa Tttt youuuuur face!!"

"See this?" Pillard turned to Hao to be met with the most shocking scene he never expected.

He found Hao stretching his arms, taking a deep breath in while his face showed how relaxed and happy he was.

"Home sweet home," Hao said it in a very relaxed way like he was really feeling truly like that. Of course someone like Pillard wouldn't understand what a person like Hao was feeling right now.

But Hao didn't care about such a person. He only immersed himself in the moment. Just being in a dorm with all such people who were gamers was refreshing.

Just hearing the familiar cursing voices and shouts filled with adrenaline and excitement made his blood boil! Even the air here felt different, much different than the outside world.

For him, this was his world, the real world.

"Let's go," Pillard seemed a bit shaking when Hao took longer than he expected stretching both arms, mistaking him as if he was welcoming his end or something.

In Pillard eyes, Hao was just a lunatic who seemed to have suicidal intentions.

"Lead the way bro," Hao's tone was totally different than before. After all, planning for all this time was something, and living the thing itself was another.

"This way," Just as the two walked through a wide corridor, a group of ten people walked in, carrying heavy looking sealed boxes.

They were the delivery boys, and they were carrying Hao's stuff.

"All of these?" Pillard led Hao across many opened doors where the inside was literally in chaos. But that wasn't what stopped Hao's eyes, but all the gaming stations those youths here had while immersed in playing their games.

This was like a heaven for Hao. and he selected this place just for that.

That shareholder person of the academy didn't just accept anyone, but only those with special gaming talents. Gaming world wasn't that peaceful place for anyone without deep pockets.

Be it game gears, game coins, even buying the full versions of many games… all needed money. That shareholder person just provided everyone with a fully equipped station, and left them to face the brutal gaming world alone.

Hao selected this place for that specific reason. Frankly speaking, he sat his gaze upon such a treasure trove, one that was kept well hidden from the picky eyes of the many teams.

Hao was lost in his thoughts, and ignored Pillard for everything he said. The latter kept nervously talking non-stop as he was feeling restless just being in such a messy place that he didn't only hate and despise, yet fear.

When they reached a big room with two big closed doors he hurriedly opened them and said:

"This place was supposed to be a special place for a big shot in college. Yet that person never came to live here and only kept visiting the dorm a couple of times each year."

*Click!*

Once the doors opened, Hao's smile of content changed to a big grin over his face. Inside was another, slightly smaller corridor, covered with a few portraits of a refined lady who seemed like she came out of a mediaeval golden age.

"Who is she?" Despite him knowing her identity, he still asked Pillard to make sure.

"She is that person I told you about, Lady Cher," Pillard said, "she is one of the shareholders in the college, one who came from a strong and wealthy family."

"Aha," Hao confirmed the data he collected before coming here about this lady with what Pillard said. She was in her late thirtieth, yet looking young and pure like she was in mid-twentieth.

The corridor extended for twenty metres, with four doors facing each other. At the end of the corridor, a big wooden door was there while an empty place for a name plate was on one side of that door.

"Here," Pillard opened the door, and Hao found a room that was like a hall. It spanned for almost one hundred metres square at least, and that without calculating the space taken by the bed, the big drawer, the big desk, and that big library filled with many cds and books.

"Please don't cause any harm to this place," Pillard said, but when he did, he motioned towards the direction of the library, "Lady Cher will be mad if anyone did something to these."

"I got it," Hao nodded before he caught the keys thrown in the air as Pillard turned around to leave as fast as he could.

"See you later," Pillard hurriedly said with no sincerity at all as he left the place.

"F*ck you!" as Hao finally became freed from that liability, he finally showed his true self as he cursed.

Life taught him that there were certain people who didn't deserve wasting his breaths on.

"Do you want us to put these boxes here?" Just moments later, the delivery boys arrived as they stood in puzzlement.

"Leave them inside the rooms," Hao casually waved his arm and they just left the boxes inside the rooms after opening them using the keys he got from Pillard.

The delivery boys kept coming and going at least five times. In the middle of all this, this weird movement attracted the attention of many dwellers inside the dorm.

Many faces came spying curiously at what was going on at that holy place. Of course some also called it the cursed room, as no one ever lived inside there since the opening of this dorm.

"Hi," Hao welcomed all the curious faces with a wide smile over his face, "sorry but I have to ask, does anyone here know someone with the name LadyHilNight?"

He was tired and got an annoying jet lag, but he wanted to find that person first.

"You mean the dorm boss?" a green voice came from behind a few puzzled faces, "she isn't here yet. She comes at night."

"Thanks bro," Hao said but that youth responded in a rude way:

"Don't bro me, we don't know your name yet!"

"I'm Hao," Hao raised his hand in the air like he was an alien announcing to a group of humans that he came in peace.

"Ok stranger named Hao," the owner of the voice said, "but before meeting our leader you shall know the rules here first…"

As if the owner of that voice was someone famous, the faces standing in front of Hao's room all moved aside and a short youth appeared.

"Won't you tell me your name first?" Hao calmly said while crossing his arms in front of his chest.

"I'm E," the boy said, "I'm the vice leader of the dorm."

"Ok bro," Hao shrugged, "what are the rules?"

"No one is welcomed here without a game challenge," the one calling himself E said while crossing his arms in return, "select one from the entire dorm before the leader arrives. Once she is here, she will oversee the challenge."

"And then?" Hao calmly asked.

"If you lost, you'll have to walk away from here and never come back again," E said before showing a vicious smile, "and if you succeeded, and I hardly doubt that, then you'll have to fight with others here to find a suitable rank for you."

"Are you looking down on me?" Hao asked yet his voice was void from any aggressiveness.

"I just don't trust anyone coming with those fancy collars," E said, referring to Pillard.

"He is just a jerk," Hao shrugged.

"And you also came with such a big luggage and drove a fancy car," E added, just showing how fast news spread here.

And just from that, Hao couldn't help but show a faint smile over his face.

"That's why I asked for your dorm leader," Hao said in a tone that showed his demeanour, "I wanted to challenge her. I heard she was a good player at the Apex game, right?"

E looked at him for a brief second before turning to the curious faces on his side as he said in mockery:

"Have you heard of him , boys? He wants to challenge our top player, hahaha!"

A wave of laughter came from many people that gave Hao the impression that the entire dorm was laughing at him.

In response to that, Hao simply moved to the doors of his room as he slowly closed them. "Sorry, but inform me when she arrives. Also tell her that I'm ready to use any station, any champ, and any map she likes. She just has to be ready for a good fight, ok?"

The confident words he said made the face of E and many others change slightly before he closed the doors.

"It's a good start," as he returned inside his big room at the end of that corridor, he couldn't resist smiling, "I'm getting a good vibe from being here."

He looked around before shrugging, "screw it. I never cleaned anything before. It's better to sleep and have some rest first."

He just looked in a careless way towards all these boxes, threw his special sunglasses on the table and then jumped over the king sized bed.

In less than a few minutes, he was in deep sleep with his clothes.
