"It's good, I'll give you that," Diar says, straightening her costume.
"I've got them seated and squared away, so we can get on with the show," you say.
"Did you actually talk to them? What did you say?" Diar sounds freshly alarmed, as if she thinks you can't be trusted not to make a mess.
"I said I'd be happy to talk with the Raven and his heirs after the play. About the play."
Diar looks abruptly stormy. "Well, that will be nice for you, but that doesn't do much for us, does it? You could have offered to introduce the leading actors. Including your own very good friend, an up-and-coming performer, and so forth. You're good at words, I expect you could have figured some out."
