"This is the problem," Nichol says, and points to a towering heap of painted cloth "boulders" that litter one side of the stage. "The avalanche is not meant to occur before the curtain even opens."
"We can load all this back in," a stagehand says. "Won't take long."
"Yes, but will it work on the night?" Nichol shakes his head. "Or will we have an enormous heap of actual rocks, procured at no small expense, pour down upon the stage at some random moment during the production?"
"It's not working right, I think," Diar says.
"I can see that," Nichol says from between gritted teeth. "But we're going to have to cut the effect, despite the money we've spent on it. We can't have this interrupting the show."
Matty will not be happy if the avalanche does not appear. You're certain of that.
