Chapter 14 - 14.

*Akeelah*

There is quite the massive turnover at my party.

Billionaires, CEOs, Heirs and Heiresses and just rich children.

And one thing, I'm not complaining.

Opposite me now is the CEO of one of the biggest construction companies in the country. I'll be needing his help, bringing Rose Construction back into tip top shape.

And sure, it won't be easy.

"Nice to meet you Miss...?" He asks me and clinks his champagne glass with mine.

"Akeelah. Akeelah Rose." I affirm to him, and sips from my glass with my eyes on him while studying him at the same time.

From what I've read of him, he is serious with his work and knows how to separate work from personal lives. I would love being partners with people like him.

"So to what do we owe this fine party?"

"Well... I'll leave you to decide because you're definitely worth the invite. Mr Callaghan." I smile at him genuinely

"Ah. I see you took it upon yourself to know my name." He teases

"Why should I not? I am the host after all..."

And he's very easy to chat with

"There are a lot of people here tonight" He remarks and casts his eyes around

I smile and follow suit

Towards the middle of the room, I sight Mr Aaron.

He has to be a big person to be able to be here. I'll ask about him from Eve later. Even, it takes a wealthy person to be able to afford 2 billion for the house.

I excuse myself from Mr Callaghan and walk over to him.

"Fancy meeting you here Mr Aaron-" I start to say when I see the man beside him.

Standing tall and arrogant like he always does.

"Nice dinner you have here Miss Akeelah."

"Oh please. Just call me Akeelah. I didn't know you were invited."

"Ah. So you didn't write the invitation letter yourself? I shouldn't have come then..." Aaron teases

I let out a light laughter and look at Andrè. He looks so out of place.

Just then, Aaron's phone rings.

"Excuse me, I have to pick this call..."

He even takes permission to pick a call.

Unfortunately, I am left behind with my 'ex-husband' who doesn't deem it fit to say anything.

I turn to leave anyway but he calls me back

"Akeelah-" He starts

"Miss Akeelah to you Sir." I cut in with a sickly sweet smile.

A smile too sweet to be safe.

"You just disappeared. How have you been?"

"Wow. What's with this twist of fate? You care about how I have been? Am I dreaming?" I answer

How dare he?

After treating me like rag that he never took to wash even.

The only time he ever asked me how I fared was in a party like this one where we had to pretend to be a couple in love.

That night disgusted me so much and now he's asking how I am?

That he cares is quite as possible as a volcanic explosion in my house.

He looks at incredulously.

"I'm asking because I care."

Whoa.

I actually got goosebumps.

Too filled with responsibilities, I don't asnwer him and simply leave for other guests.

I won't let him ruin the party mood I worked so hard to build.
