Her eyes moved restlessly in her sleep. It must not have been a beautiful dream for her because her face occasionally wrinkled, showing how uncomfortable she was in her sleep. Then the woman gasped. With the eyelids suddenly opening, her consciousness began to return. The white ceiling became the first sight that entered her eyes.
Her head turned. However, a long curtain limited her view as it covered the surroundings of her bed. Instantly, the smell of medicine wafted into her nose. Hospital. That was all that crossed her mind to guess where she was.
Slowly, Luna changed her position into a sitting. One hand grabbed her head, which throbbed with dizziness, while the other supported her still weak body.
Wait. Why did Luna feel these two things? And why did she see her black coat folded neatly beside her pillow? Was she in a hospital in the above world? What happened to her?
It was then that a flash of memory hit her. It was about her last job and how she used her powers to help the toddler. Her face paled as she realized the mistake she had made. She saved a human!
Luna forced her body to move. She had to confirm something immediately. With a jolt, Luna opened the surrounding curtains. Her eyes widened when she saw the scene behind it. Luna was in a small, unfamiliar room. Her shock reached its maximum level as her brain recognized this place as not the hospital she had visited in the above world. This place was too similar to the room she had frequently seen in the human world.
"No way," she muttered, trying to shake off all the bad thoughts. However, the harsh reality hit her again. Her fear seemed to turn real when she saw a nurse walking toward her. That woman was human!
"It was your fault. Why did you have to save the child?"
A voice entered Luna's ear. Rio, the man in all black, was standing near to her. He looked at her pityingly and accusingly at the same time.
"What did you mean?" asked Luna, not fully understanding the situation.
"Are you awake?"
Another voice interrupted their conversation, which was about to begin. Luna turned her head. The look on her face revealed her surprise when she found the nurse she had seen was before her. Moreover, the nurse was watching her.
"Are you okay?" The nurse asked again after getting no response from her patient.
Luna's brow furrowed. Her head turned right and left, looking for a human who deserved to be her interlocutor. Nothing. There was only her and the nurse in this small room. "Are you talking to me?" Once again, she confirmed.
"Of course. There're no other patients here, apart from you," she answered, even though confused why the patient would ask that. "Are you okay?" She repeated her question.
"Oh-Um-Yeah," Luna slightly stuttered. To be honest, she didn't know how to answer that question. She wasn't all right, but she couldn't possibly tell the nurse.
"Good." The nurse made a brief comment. "The doctor checked earlier. He said you were exhausted. Your blood pressure is also low. This is the medicine prescribed by the doctor," she continued with a long explanation, then handed Luna a plastic package.
Luna accepted the package hesitantly. Her mind imagined the condition of her body that the nurse had mentioned. Fatigue? Low blood pressure? Oh, even she also needed medicine to recover her state. Really unbelievable.
"Oh, the person who helped you has paid for all the treatment costs. He also left a business card for you. He said you can call him if you need help."
Luna's hand reached out again to accept a note from the nurse. She read the name on it. Zach Miller. Her brows knitted together. The name was familiar to her.
"When you feel well, you can go straight home. Excuse me."
Luna nodded. "Thank you, Ma'am," she said to the nurse who had cared for her while she was unconscious.
The nurse gave her a last smile before walking away from Luna. She looked at the back of the woman, who was guessed to be in her mid-twenties. Experiencing the services of a nurse for herself gave a distinct impression than just seeing it. She was just a spectator of her daily work dealing with various patients all this time. Then that day, she could feel directly how a patient was under the supervision of a nurse. Indeed, they worked professionally by providing full service to their patients.
She might only exaggerate because, in fact, her firsthand experience with the nurse occurred while she was awake. That meant less than ten minutes of their interaction lasted. However, from how the nurse explained her condition, she knew her guess was correct. The nurse came to her first when she regained consciousness and kept the medicine and business card for her.
Ah, instead of thinking about that, an urgent situation needed to be studied. How did she end up being human?
"What did you mean by it was all my fault?" Luna asked Rio, who was still standing close to her. She deliberately kept her voice low because she didn't want humans to hear their conversation and thought it was strange that she spoke with the air in front of her.
"Because you saved the little boy, those who should have died are still alive."
Luna's mouth opened as if to reveal her disbelief. "Everyone?" The word barely caught in her throat.
Rio nodded.
Seeing his reaction, her shoulders went limp. Although the thought had crossed her mind, she never wanted it to happen. She had broken a rule that the angel of death could never break. Change the destiny of human death.
Luna hid her face behind her palms to hide how frustrated she was. "How could this happen?"
"The shield you created turned out to protect the toddler and the person who should have caused the accident. In other words, you canceled the accident, so they're now alive."
A grunt escaped her lips. Her carelessness was truly fatal for her.
"That little boy is an unexpected fate. The consequences wouldn't have been this bad if you had just saved him."
Yeah, yeah. All of Rio's words were true. She was the one who caused this problem to happen to her. She should have held back and patiently waited for the time to come. "Then why did I become human?" She let out annoyance in her tone.
"The human who brought you here is the one you should have picked up."
Instantly, her eyes fell on the business card on her lap. Zach Miller. No wonder the name was familiar to her. She had already read it while studying the information regarding the spirit she had to carry.
"Impossible!" she squealed as her brain finished deciphering everything. One fatal mistake. Saved the human who was her target. And this was her punishment.
