Chapter 3 - Cloud Nine

Phoebe couldn't take her mind off of the mysterious guest as she got ready for their meeting. It wasn't often that outsiders came to visit, were they all as kind as him? Perhaps her pack was simply dysfunctional. If only she could accompany Beta Leon when he took his leave.. but she knew her Alpha would never allow it.

The priestess sat in the shrine that had been made for her, her 'vision room' as some would call it. It wasn't much more than just a simple shack, however it had a window roof, which let in the moonlight. Phoebe felt as though her powers were stronger the more the moon shone on her. More than just a meditation spot, it almost felt like her own personal hiding spot. It was less likely to bump into Alpha Axel in here, anyways.

She was finished with preparations, and now just wanted to meditate. It was starting to get dark out, and she knew Alaina would be back to fetch her any moment now.

A rustle of bushes near the entrance to her shrine made her smile. Speak of the devil, that must be her now.

"What a cozy little space," Uh oh, that wasn't Alaina.

Phoebe jumped up, turning to look at the intruder. "Beta Leon," She breathed out, a sheepish smile curving her lips. "Thank you, I know it may not compare to the shrines back home, but this place is very special to me."

"Well, if we are able to determine the usefulness of your gift, you will likely be seeing an expansion as a result of the increase in funding,"

Leon may have meant that in a positive light, however Phoebe could only manage to purse her lips at the thought. It was likely that her shrine would remain the same despite an increase in funding. She couldn't imagine Alpha Axel to want to spare a dime towards her interests.

"My apologies, High Priestess. I didn't mean it like that.. We in no way are looking to exploit you." Ah, it seemed Leon was getting the wrong idea. Phoebe shook her head with a smile, admiring his kindness. It was the first time someone expressed not wanting to exploit her.

"No, it's quite alright. There is no need for an apology, that was not what was going through my mind.." She trailed off, biting down on her lower lip. There would be consequences if she spoke ill of her Alpha, so she simply left it at that. Leon was no fool, and was already beginning to shape his understanding of what the Alpha meant to the priestess. "There is also no need for formalities. You can call me Phoebe."

This earned her a beaming grin from the male, who was immediately taken by the name. "Phoebe, wow. I don't think I've actually met someone with that name before, it's very cute." He laughed as a bright red blush tinted the cheeks of the priestess. She had never been called cute before!

"I..!" She was at a loss for words, however Leon must've planned on this being the case, because he took the initiative on beginning a new conversation.

"I don't mean to tease you, Pheebs. Why don't you tell me about your gift? Alpha Raye will be pretty mad if I come back with no information on you." Pheebs?! Putting aside never being called cute before, this was the first time she'd ever earned a nickname! This was all very overwhelming for the priestess!

"I w-would love to, Beta Leon. However, I find myself a bit flustered at the moment," She admitted with a hint of embarrassment, covering her blushing face in her hands for a moment. Leon would've loved to tease her further, however he could hear footsteps approaching very quickly. Shit, the Alpha must've realized he was snooping around.

"Beta Leon! High Priestess! Dinner is about to begin." Ah, he sent someone over to fetch them.

"What good fortune, I was just beginning to wonder when we'd get to sit down for some dinner," Leon's grin never faded, extending his hand towards Phoebe.

"Let's go together, Pheebs." He sent her a wink as she placed her hand in his. Even cloud nine didn't float as gracefully as she felt her feet did when she was with Leon.
