''I guess I just never thought of her having another name.'' Dean told me as I explained what I had just learned. Needing to get it out before I told my mother. Letting my many emotions melt away at all the reasons she may have not told me if she did know.
I always forget about it too, my father's last name has always been apart of my name and even if our coven was still as strong as It was back in the day, I would still want to take his; a good man among so many that are anything but. The reason Durand make it so far through generations was to simply keep their maiden name; most men never stuck around anyhow.
My mother is the first in several generations to marry.
''Someone else survived that fire; had children of their own too.'' I told him, glancing at him with excitement. Perhaps this Adeline thinks her relative was the only one to escape the fire too, no one who had would still be alive. Not sure how old or young she is even still knowing that.
Dean appeared to be in thought; how I imagined myself to look just a few hours ago when I had found out. I allowed him the time to think on what it all means as I finished our drive home. It took me near the rest of the day to process it and I still have not fully done so.
''You should tell your mom right away, I'll tell my mom you just had to do something first.'' I nearly forget about us doing that today. I did need to take care of at least telling her today. Later tonight we could look for her exact location. With how far away she could be I think using a map would be better.
Save us the wondering with her being blood. The only time we could do spells like that; and with her name since I was sure now neither of us knew of her existence. Unless there was a reason to hide her.
Everything that has happened is just making me paranoid. Or so I hoped. The words from the book Julien gave me still in my thoughts; witches can make fierce and powerful enemies.
''It looks like I'm going to have to wait.'' I told him as I pulled into the driveway; neither mom or dads car back yet. I would not tell her this over text or the phone. Once I felt her get home I would come straight over.
Dean gave me a look before he opened the passenger door to get out after grabbing his bag. I sighed, not wanting to wait either but this was big news; to be told in person. With her still working too I would not want to take her attention from finishing whatever it was they were; working late to do so.
I followed behind him, locking the car before putting the keys into my bag for later; having attached them to the house keys I already had and then I put it over my shoulder. Once Dean got to the door he unlocked it, locking it when he left; his mother would truly miss a literal robbery when she was lost in her designs.
I just hope she had the time or an extra dress, with prom just a few days away and now I had to find Adeline before Daven could. I just have to find her period. She's part of our coven; my coven.
''If Pax isn't with you I'm going to need you to turn around and get her dear.'' His mother shouted a bit from her office after hearing Dean close the door behind him once we both entered with it being unlocked. I made my way toward her office as he went to take care of his things.
She had left her door partly open, expecting me. ''Hey Cordelia.'' I said to get her attention as she stood back facing the door, standing in front of a mannequin with swatches of black and green; still trying to figure out that design but as I looked past her there was a hanging rack with a few exposed dresses. She had put protective cases over several more. The ones she completed I assume and the ones ready for her runway show in just a few weeks.
''Pax!'' She turned, stopping whatever she had been doing. Perhaps trying to visualize another design. ''I'm am so honored you are finally letting me design you a dress; I started last night as soon as Dean told me.'' She moved to me, grabbing my hands to hold as she gushed over the opportunity as If I was someone far more important and I wasn't just wearing it to prom.
Although with her designing this one for me maybe I would finally let her put me in her show; wear the dress she designed as a thank you; a real proper one.
Once she told me of her already started design she released my hands and hurried over to another mannequin, one I hadn't noticed with the cloth she draped over it; only noticing it as she rolled it over.
''Before I went any further with it I need your current measurements; the last time you let me measure you was a few years ago.'' She smiled as she pulled the tape to measure me from around her neck and then pulling the cloth away to reveal a truly stunning design already; not sure how this was not entirely complete.
How could she have just started it last night; has she been working on it all night?
''It's beautiful Cordelia.'' I was nearly speechless as I looked it over, adjusting how I stood so she could start her measurements. She smiled before she measured my waist and took it down on a small piece of paper she had taped to her nondominant hand.
''So who's this wonderful guy that asked you to prom?'' She asked before she paused to write another measurement down. Her use of words probably from how Dean had attempted to describe him.
''Julien.'' I smiled upon saying his name and she smiled largely upon seeing it when she looked back up. Not sure how describe him; knowing he is the one.
But she could see what he meant, what he means to me; just by how I spoke his name and the smile that followed it.
''Not only wonderful but special; I have to meet him now.'' She nearly laughed at the end. I know she had sadly found her love in Dean's father; never even going on a single date since his passing. Even after all these years. She does know what it looks like; what it feels like.
Julien is my love; my soulmate; mate. I smiled a bit more to myself at the thought before I spoke.
''That's the least I can do since you're designing my prom dress.'' Easy to do too, Julien will be coming here on prom night so she will get a chance; especially with Dean going too.
I'm sure I am just as excited as Cordelia is to see Dean in a suit. Not to mention his beautiful date Charlotte. Both of us having a very impressive date to bring.
I looked up and away from the dress when she spoke, not realizing Dean had come in; to busy admiring the dress once again.
''Nope, sorry honey but you need to get out; It's time for Pax to try the dress on.'' Dean looked mad, just having entered but he sighed before going to leave.
''I guess I'll just do my homework then.'' Something that brought him disappointment brought her something to be proud of. I smiled at the two of them though.
Not like he couldn't use the time to do so.
''That's a wonderful idea honey.'' She shouted to him as he made his way out and probably back up to his bedroom. Also most likely not really going to start on it and get distracted by something.
Once I moved to set my bag down I took the majority of my clothes off well she began to lift it off the mannequin to help me put on. Her process to truly begin now; her guesses for my size impressive already. Just mainly minor adjustments needed to be made; from what I gathered in her process.
''This Julien will not know what hit him when he sees you in this.'' Cordelia took a step back to look it over after sticking a few pins in to pull the dress in slightly to better fit and pulled my hair from it to get a better look to how I will look when It's all down.
I smiled, blushing a bit at the thought of just how he will react; knowing it to be the most beautiful dress I've seen without me in it. Maybe I would even have my mom do my hair and makeup; at least my hair. Just to decide if I should wear it up or keep it down; I'd ask Julien what he likes. The way he see's me through his eyes is better then how I see myself.
After about an hour of her fitting me and doing small alters well I was wearing it we called it a night; she would do whatever else she thought she needed to edit the dress and tomorrow after school I would try it on one more time for any finishing touches that may or may not need to be done.
Not to mention tomorrow she was getting the shoes she ordered for her collection; when it was runway ready. One pair belonging to me since I was going to be the first to show off one of her designs for the new collection.
By the time I got back over to my house my mom had messaged about her and dad on their way home; telling me she would start on dinner once she got home but requested for me to take out a few things.
I of course did but with what I had to tell her I also started on the dinner; seeing what she had planned to make with the selected ingredients. As everything was set up to just cook a bit, I pulled out my phone to call Julien. With what time it was, I was sure he was most likely stopped and set up for the night at a hotel of some sort, traveling with Katy still.
If I was Katy and had to go time without Julien as I am now; the last thing I would want to do is travel before spending missed time together.
''Hey beautiful.'' Julien spoke upon answering, a smile heard clearly in his voice which paired with the compliment made me both smile and blush; thankful he couldn't see it at this moment.
Although to be able to see him tonight instead of tomorrow night would be well worth it.
''Penelope told me you tried on your prom dress.'' Julien spoke again before I could and seemed to be asking about it in his own way. I moved to stir the veggies before I nodded and answered him.
Speaking of Penelope; I longer felt her presence but another wolf, this one unfamiliar but I could sense him being no threat. Here to watch me just as Penelope had done.
''Yes, It's already almost ready too.'' I remained vague in my answer though, wanting it to be a surprise when he sees it. Just as he was going to surprise me in whatever suit he decides to wear; going to be the beautiful one.
An aspect I was most nervous about; not expecting me to go let alone with someone as perfect as Julien. All eyes will go to his stunning self.
''I suppose that means you won't tell me about it?'' This time he did ask and after I turned the heat off, most the food ready I turned my head a bit.
''I'll only tell you the color's...'' I stepped back from the stove top to place the veggies among three plates, dividing them around for each of us; more for dad though. ''It's two shades of green.''
Not only did Cordelia know how green compliments me; her collection is centered around green's, mostly dark with black but my dress features two greens.
''I just hope you can dance in it.'' His voice became a bit deeper, thinking on it. The dress seeming more for slow dancing but dancing none the less and the best kind I could think of when it came to dancing with Julien.
''You know I love you right; like really love you?'' I asked as I looked up through the window, car lights lighting the driveway as both my parents drove into it to park their cars.
I just wanted to make sure he knows how utterly in love I am with him; how much I truly admire him. Not to mention how thankful I am to him just being in my life.
''Not as much as I love you.'' He was quick in his response, voice still a bit deep but his smile was heard again. ''Call me once you take care of everything with your mother; I want to listen to you well we sleep.'' He made is request, most likely still hearing everything even over the phone. I was starting to like how clear he made his feelings and what he wanted.
I no longer questioned it, used to him knowing things; whether through him listening or his other senses. How he had indeed known my mother was home.
I could not help the large smile that remained on my lips nearly the entire time we talked; anytime we talked. I however, took in a breath; to be able to compose my thoughts properly. ''I'm going to tell her over dinner so I'll call you a bit after that.'' I told him, feeling I should. I had another feeling he might just wait the whole time; as I have seen him do before. ''Oh and maybe a quick spell.'' I added quickly as my mom and dad came through the front door.
Not hearing what they were saying before they noticed me in the kitchen, cooking already. I instead listened to Julien's response, going to tell them dinner is ready once we hang up.
''Okay; I'll be here.'' Was that a near laugh I heard? I suppose he didn't need every detail but I did leave out there being blood involved in this spell; being just a bit strange. This type of blood magic not as scary as it sounds.
It really only takes a few drops of blood; just a prick in the finger.
''Okay, I'll call you soon.'' I told him once again before he agreed; once again and I hung up once my mother began to walk into the kitchen, looking at me and everything I did. Not expecting me to cook too.
Once I put my phone into my back pocket I looked up at her and looked past her to not see dad anywhere anymore. ''He's going to shower real quick; I'll help you set up?'' She offered; with dinner being all down now.
I nodded, not denying her help before I began to speak. ''Durand is your maiden name right?'' I asked, wanting to make sure before I gave her any false hope of a relative. We'd be sure though once we did the spell; if we do the spell tonight.
My mother nodded before she paused to look up at me from moving to collect a plate of the food. She knows me to well. ''Why?'' She placed the plate back onto the counter, sensing the more to my question.
''Daven is looking for a women named Adeline Durand; she's a witch.'' I told her, allowing her to just hear it for herself. All I know about her too. She looked around, appearing to be processing it; not looking to have known.
''It's a rare name.'' She spoke out loud in a breath; almost a whisper. ''How do you know she's a witch?'' My mother asked, looking at me suddenly again.
I sighed and placed the plate l I held onto the counter as she had. ''Julien say's we smell different; not just because I'm his mate but because I'm a witch.'' Distinct in my own way I suppose; more then one way. I shrugged, not sure how but he had gotten something with her scent on it too.
Getting close enough at one point to find something with her scent. She's been running for a bit hasn't she?
''Can Julien track her?'' She asked, picking the plate up once again to walk it to the dining table and I moved to follow her; picking up the plate once again too.
I nodded and caught up with her. ''No, but remember that spell you told me about; If I ever got lost?'' I asked her, having tested it myself when I was younger to make sure I knew what I was doing If I ever needed to.
Thankfully I never had to but now sounds like a good time to use it and help our own blood; or at the very least our own kind. She may not want our help but she deserved it.
''Well, yes; I taught it to you.'' she smiled up at me once she placed the plate she held onto the table, then took mine to place before retrieving the last to place around the table for each of us. ''Let's do it after dinner; see if we can't find her; then we can figure out what to do.'' I nodded and we got the rest of the food set up before we sat to wait for dad to come down to eat. Having some things I did not plate; leaving it up to how much everyone wanted of it.
His shower was quick and it was nice to sit down together for dinner once again. Being able to catch up and tell him of the possibility of finding another witch. Much more used to witches then werewolf's; just as I am.
He was so interested in knowing if she is related he choose to stay up with us to do the spell; following us into the craft room after we ate and cleaned up. I choose to prick my finger; being the one to lead the spell meant I should lead the spell.
Once she set the map up and put the focusing Fluorite crystals around to hold it in place I pricked my finger with a small needle and allowed a few drops of blood to fall in the middle. A small pool of it formed before I looked up to my mother and she nodded.
She was ready to help strengthen the spell with her magic too. Allowing me to search for longer and farther; If need be. I closed my eyes and said her name aloud once my mother gave me her hands to hold; to set up the direct link to her.
Easier to link when the connection was physical. Not impossible to do without it but just so much easier.
I opened my eyes once I felt it, the energy begin to work through me to reach out with our connection; indeed our blood. I glanced at my mother and then to my father as my blood made it's own path to her location. I narrowed my eyebrows before I looked back at my mother, releasing her hands as the blood stopped.
''She's in Washington.'' She said, a bit surprised at her closeness, her last supposed known location was Alaska.
I however looked back down to the blood, ''Maybe she's already looking for us.'' I told her; thinking further on why she would be close, maybe she had been making her way here before everything happened with Daven. Or he even caused her to begin looking for us.
We both looked to my father when he uncrossed his arms and began to speak. ''Looks like we can just wait for her to find us then; if she's anything like either of you we won't have to wait very long.'' He then let out a sigh, content with that and I nodded once; partly agreeing with it.
There had to be a way to help her find us though. I allowed that to be enough for now and we all made our way upstairs. I was going to think more or maybe find something that would help. For now though I got ready for bed and settled down to call Julien.
Not sure yet If I wanted to look tonight or sometime later tomorrow. Maybe sneak my grimoire to school to look during a free period or lunch.
''Hey Pax.'' I smiled upon hearing his voice and could not help but let out a content sigh, my troubles melting away to deal with later.
''Hey Julien.'' I decided to just bring my grimoire to school and snapped my fingers to turn my lights out; only the dim light from my phone lit up the room. I only moved once more to plug my phone in; making sure it stayed on during our call.
''Did you do your spell?'' He asked and I heard a bit of shuffling before I heard him sigh; most likely lying down too. I closed my eyes to picture him nearby; not still on the other side of the phone.
''I did; she's somewhere in Washington, maybe already looking for us.'' I explained to him before I opened my eyes once again to look out the window. Sensing the moths before I noticed them fluttering around in the window. Not looking to get to my light source as they should.
Only white moths fluttered together, attempting to get in; to truly flutter around me. Those should have stopped once my birthday came and went; unless my Accession lasts longer then I knew of. Each unique indeed.
I waved with my hand as if to sway them away; only a temporary fix but it would work for now.
''I could help you wonder to her if you want when I get back.'' Julien offered, hearing how that just wasn't enough in my voice. I nodded though.
That won't work in this case. ''I need something to help her find us.'' A way to reach out to her; like Katy had done with me when she was asking for help; she helped guide me to her.
I looked back to my phone, it clicking within my brain. ''I'll need you to ask Katy how she reached out to me for help; I can use that.'' I told him, needing his help next time he spoke to her. Not easy for her to just come her or me to go there. I just needed a few basics and I could figure it out.
''Of course; I'll tell you what she says when I get there tomorrow.'' I nodded and relaxed fully once again. ''Goddess I want to be holding you right now.'' He spoke once again; frustration clear in his voice. Not toward me but toward Daven; making it hard for us to just be together.
Only a bit thankful for him to expose the existence of a family member.
I made of noise of agreement before I spoke. ''Trust me I want you to.'' I really wanted him to. To be right next to me, looking at me through the darkness with that intensity behind his eyes.
''Your hearts beating faster then usual; are you okay?'' He pulled me from my thoughts and I realized where I was going and was suddenly glad he was not here in this moment; I want him.
I cleared my throat and adjusted before I spoke, trying to clear my head fully of such thoughts. ''Yeah, yeah I was just thinking.'' He did not need to know exactly what the topic of said thinking was.
How I missed his hands though; his hands- Pax. I had to stop myself from thinking and changed my focus to something else. ''Have you heard anything from the Elders?''
''No but I do know they are getting Rigel to begin tracking him; his specialty.'' He told me before explaining why he would be chosen to bring on. If he's so good why wasn't he brought on earlier. Daven not someone to take lightly.
You can not reason with anyone who would be willing to hurt a child to get what they want.
''Well then I suppose we have a better chance of him being found then; right?'' I asked, hoping to get his opinion on how good of a tracker he actually his. I may have to put myself in danger soon to bring him in. Able to go straight to him with my wondering.
The risk looking better and better as time passes with him still free to do as he pleases. Just out and about with everyone. Not everyone knowing what he could be capable of.
''He's certainly our best chance right now.'' He told me with a sigh; not seeming entirely confident in his ability to do what is supposed to be his specialty. Perhaps they are not taking it as seriously as they should be.
I would more then love to meet them and remind them of the importance. I know what Julien is capable and these selected Elders should be capable of. Maybe I will push up this Luna ceremony and be taken a bit more serious to be able to do so.
''I want to be made Luna; officially.'' Remembering Penelope's words and changing mine a bit. This way it would made true, I could be Julien's equal officially as well. Going to make it harder for him to just say no or make all the decisions himself.
With how things were going; I may have to step up and take charge of things, find Daven myself.
I know I liked it at first with his pack; knowing he would better with those decisions but I needed to step up; be the coven leader I should be and use all my outlets. Julien and his pack will only strengthen me; force me to be better as I should. Alex could even finally open up to me, like everyone else as; not sure he considers me to be his Luna as of yet and I do not blame him.
Julien had to step up young and I'm his mate; we are in this together.
''Alright;'' Julien was a bit taken back by my sudden change of mind and declaring what I want. ''My wolf has to be the very first to accept you though.'' His choice of words confused me; I thought his wolf was the first to accept me, the first to even catch my scent.
He's always saying how his wolf is what makes it hard for him to control himself; being even more drawn to me then him. I even seen how his wolf side emerges around me.
''I thought he already has?'' I asked, not understanding what he could mean if he already had done so. I know for sure his wolf likes me; that part of him what allows him to know we are mates in the first place.
''My wolf needs to accept you in front of the pack but you need to be marked; truly accepted by me.'' He explained but does he not truly accept me unless I'm marked? I hoped that was just for show and he does.
I swallowed before I thought a bit further. In order to be Luna I need to be marked; we need to mate first.
