But before it could have hit her face, it landed on her gown and the blood splattered all over her face and she shrieked yet again, almost vibrating the tall trees around her.
She scrambled up as she limped, staggering as she moved backwards, wincing. She felt nauseated but she was holding up, trying her best to hold up. She had dislocated her foot and she felt glued, to ever move farther.
More screams of anguish were heard, severed heads flying, limbs been torn, blood splattering. Whatever that smoke was, it was killing and slaying the men.
Gwen began to take limp steps away from the gruesome scene. She was so terrified to keep staring at it. She had never seen so many people being murdered in cold blood.
She was about to take one more step back to flee when she felt her back collide with something hard. Quickly veering around to see what it was, she found a tall man or probably a beast with a human face, two horns on its head, gold eyes and lips dripping with blood. What was it? It was truly the monster!!!. His face was horrible, staring back at her unblinkingly, which made her head spin and her legs about to give her away to collapse on the ground.
She was about to fall but the monster held her tightly, still staring at her and not averting his scorching gaze. Gwen saw it lean closer and she wanted to scream but no matter how wide her mouth stretched, no sound was made and she wondered if it was fear or the effect of the monster that had suddenly turned her mute?.
His voice sounded dangerous and yet gentle or was she having a heap of dirt in her ears that were deceiving her, making its voice sound gentle.
"Forget whatever you had seen here". The monster said and Gwen frowned, what was this crazy monster saying?. Why was he telling her to forget the gruesome scene, she had witnessed today. It was apparent she would never forget this for the rest of her life's journey.
When the monster had seen the girl frown and her eyes darting across his face in confusion while he tried to compel her, he frowned as well. His expression was searching for an answer, searching for if the girl couldn't be compelled. He growled, tightening its hold on her to hear her wince in pain, her entire body was already trembling in its strong hands.
" Look closer!". The monster barked and she stared back without a word. "Forget my face, your encounters and the shadow that you have seen... Now sleep".
The fear instilled in her body would never let her do otherwise and she complied willingly by falling limp. She expected the monster to let her fall to the ground but instead, it was still staring at her and holding her firm.
Her heart was about to explode and she was sure the monster could hear it pounding. She was praying for it to let go of her but it just wouldn't which made her tense, more than ever.
Still pretending to fall asleep, she felt the monster gently lay her down on the grasses. She felt it brush away the strands of hair on her face and she could still feel it hovering and staring at her. She was doing her best to keep her heart still but that thing in there, in her chest was about to fail her.
Her face was about to contort into a frown, and her lips were threatening to tremble but she held still; she was trying to hold still! as she clenched her fists tighter beside her gown. Stay still, stay still, you can do this. She was assuring herself and a second more, she felt his presence, not looming around her anymore. It just felt as though the monster was gone.
She had felt his presence, not around her anymore but she continued to stay calm, nonetheless. She had a thought in her head that the monster was still somewhere trying to verify if she was truly put to sleep as he had commanded.
After a few more moments, she quickly shot open her eyes and gasped.
