"Your coffee's ready!"
I jump at the cheerful voice of the barista. I almost lost my heart there, not in a good way. I look back down as I stand and notice the wolf back in it's position looking up at the red moon. I saw wrong...I think.
I pay and collect my coffee. I take a sip and I'm in heaven, it is so delicious. Definitely can't be compared with instant coffee.
"This is delicious. What it's called?" I ask.
"Caramel Macchiato," she says with a satisfied look. " I knew you would like it."
I nod, I really do love it.
"You should come back soon to try out our other selections."
She's very nice and I like her. I think I will come back very soon. Especially because the cup of coffee is just fifty cents. What a bargain, I love cheap stuff. I honestly thought it will be more expensive.
I walk out taking another sip of my coffee. As I hear the door ding again, closing behind me. I turn back into the pavement heading towards Copacabana, where I will get a bus home.
I'm glad I stopped, though I probably wasted my sleeping time, this was worth it. Speaking of time, why is everywhere so bright? I don't remember it being this bright when I went into the shop. Did they switch on some extra lights? And what are people wearing here?
It seems the medieval vibe from the shop has carried on to these people. Seriously, who still wears big umbrella like dresses? And top hats?
If not for the African print fabrics of most clothes here and the many black people around here, I would think I landed in medieval Europe. Lol, that would be funny.
What was that?! I stare in awe as a horse passes by me. A horse? In the middle of this busy CBD? What was going on? Was there a costume party nearby?
Now that I'm looking around,I notice that a lot of buildings don't look familiar. I don't normally use this way to get to the taxi rank, but still, I know this city. It's been a while since I have been to this part of the block so maybe there had been some renovations?
It's possible, a lot of buildings have gone through some serious changes in the last few years.
I take a sip as I turn a corner going back to my original direction that that guy has made me take a detour. I got a delicious coffee out of it so it's a win on my side.
I stop, dazzled by some brilliant lights on big LCD screens on buildings. One of them is showing some ad for a new cologne, another about being prepared for something called a Haze I think. The others I don't bother looking cause these I know for sure, were not there this morning. I always turn a corner up ahead on my way to work, I never noticed them there. Could they have mounted them during the day?
I look closely at one of the buildings they're mounted on and it's taller than the building I remember being on that spot. It's much more morden, slick and an architectural wonder. It is a beauty, I very much doubt that I will have missed such a huge and imposing building.
I take another sip of my coffee, my brain busy trying to process what my eyes were seeing.
Just then, there's a defeaning sound that sounds so close to a horn. I spill coffee all over myself.
"Oh, man!!!" I exclaim as I tried to save my clothes from getting too wet. I am so busy I don't notice everything has gone quiet.
"I barely drank half of that," I complain to myself.
"Hey! Get down!" a well dressed middle aged woman whispers hushly at me from the ground, drawing my attention from my clothes. I frown at her, I find that strange but people are mysterious sometimes.
I think I hear a clip clop of horse hooves, so I look up and everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is on their knees like the other woman now tugging my skirt, heads bowed in a bit of a strange way.
I realize, I'm the only one standing. I'm starting to think there was something in the coffee. I think this is how people get when they're high or drunk.
A big mighty horse is now in front of me, casting a shadow over me. It's so huge I have to pull my head all the way back to see the rider.
This is the second horse I'm seeing in the middle of town in less than ten minutes. I'm starting to really suspect the coffee.
After what feels like forever, my eyes finally see the rider's legs. God! They're just as long as the horse's that also went on forever. I'm starting to feel small.
The manner in which this rider is dressed is so dark, I almost missed his leg next to the dark horse's coat. The shadow makes it a bit hard to see from where I stand.
As I go up, I think I can make out very powerful thighs that are used to ridding and maybe running.
I start to feel uneasy the closer I get to the face. This man, now that I know he is a man-unless she is a very muscular woman- is huge beyond anyone I have ever met. This is the kind of person you either feel safe around or you shit your pants with fear and bolt.
I swallow, my throat is suddenly dry now. I don't think my heart has ever beat so fast in my life. Not even when I run does it go this fast.
I feel like I'm in trouble but I can't tell why.
I finally reach the face and I see a straight line that is supposed to be lips, I guess. It's either this guy has very thin lips or he is very angry right now.
As I take his set jaw in, I think I it's safe to go with the latter. I see a pointed nose and a wide brimmed hat that sits on his face, blocking his eyes from me. But I can tell they're dark.
I get the chills when my eyes look were I think the eyes are. Man! I think I took a wrong turn somewhere in this one block I just walked today.
Whoever this guy is, I don't think he's someone I should mess with.
You know when I said you either feel safe in his presence or shit your pants? Yah, if I stay here for two more seconds, I think I might.
I swallow, throw the almost empty cup of coffee at the horse and I dash back the way I came.
I hear neighs and shouts behind me but my focus is on reaching that little cafe. I dash in there and close the door behind me, praying no one saw me come in here.
"Ohhh, you are back! I didn't expect you so soon," I hear Destiny behind me so I turn to her.
As soon as she sees my face she asks, "What's wrong? You look like you have seen a ghost."
