Even though he knew eliminations would probably be the best to avoid all the angers the gods would later give to him, he still refused. Something in him just told him the man would survive it. Not to say he has a plan he needed to execute. Maybe he could get through to him and tell him to help the host. No one could ever survive on their won.
That is if he doesn't get killed for poking nose into the gods matter.
