Although Owen had promised himself he would make the man suffer when he returns in three months, he was actually more than scared. He couldn't tell if it was his bodys natural response to how powerful the man is or if it was because the man had threatened him and made him cower in fear. He, in that moment, felt like the most helpless thing in life. The way he spoke. His condescending tone was what bruised Owen's ego. As if he had already concluded that Owen would not be able to handle the system.
This wasn't his world. God! He shouldn't even be here. He didnt know what he was doing here. And in the body of ofs favourite character that now has a system that kind of seem like a big deal. After what he had experienced— the pain and fear that has rushed through him, he knew he was just as human here, as he was on earth and he could really die here. If he dies in this world, would he cease to not exist in the other world?
The only merit he has is the fact that he had read the god of death system book several times and knew how it works. He knew exactly how the scenes would pan out and who is evil and nice. He glances at his AI that was meekly walking beside him. The holographic girl looked beautiful.
Why did she suddenly fade away while the man was approaching?
Was it a natural response from her system to how powerful the man is?
His legs shook slightly and his finger began to shake as well. He stops to calm himself thinking that if he had said something to provoke that man earlier, he might really have landed in his grave. Really would be dead by now.
"Young master, is everything fine?"
He simply nods his head, not daring to talk for fear that his voice will shake when he does. He looks ahead and could already see the tarred road. He felt a sense of protection and was finally able to suck in a deep breath. One of ccalmness.
His system then pops a notification for him.
'Dear host, first mission is here. First, Help the taxi man locate his wife.'
Owen reads his mission a few more times before smiling. What? Just to help someone? He had to admit, when he found out he has the god of death system, he was slightly scared that he might have to do something he would not like but now, the system might have a weird name but the system is good.
He turns to his AI and informs. "I just got my first mission and it is really easy. I just need to help someone locate their wife. I have to say this system is good in a way I like." He didnt stop walking as he spoke to her but noticed his AI had stopped walking. "What is wrong?" He quickly looks around for traces of any enemy just he didn't fell any.
"Nothing. Young master should do his mission well."
"Of course. It is so easy. Judging by how good hearted I am, I have been blessed with a good system as well."
The expression of the holographic AI turned ugly as he said this and her usually cheerful lips that was curled upwards, curled downwards. Oh if only he knew what he was into, he would be groveling for death by now. That is just the tip of the ice berg.
Owen hurries with his walking and stands by the road side, looking around for any taxi that might be coming. The street was kind of deserted and he feared no one might even walk past. He wasnt familiar with this street unless his system might have a map for him to use. Just as he was about to inquire if his system has a map, he sights a white taxi coming from the west. He quickly rushes to stop the taxi waving his hand at the driver.
The driver stops and he gets in. His AI following him.
"We are going to Bliss Estate. Street 48, villa 5." He repeats the address of Owen Duurm to him.
The taxi man inputs the address in the GPS and calculates his money.
"That will be 100 Ralas sir."
He brought out the cash the man had given him and removes one 100 Ralas before handing it to the taxi man. The taxi man stares him with a confused expression before carefully asking. "Sir arent you Owen Duurm?"
Owen nods his head. "Yes. I am Owen Duurm." Thankfully his surname is no longer 'Hamburger'.
The man didnt start the car and asks in a quiet voice. "Aren't you supposed to be in the grave by now?"
Seeing how scared he looks, Owen finally remembers that his 'new family' had broadcast his death already. "Ahaha...they were pulling a prank on the whole country. You know how the Duurm family is. We will correct it soon. I am sorry for the inconvenience."
The man finally relaxes and starts to drive. He didn't say anything again. Thirty minutes after they were now in the main city. He noticed that the taxi man didnt say anything about his holographic AI who was sitting next to him so he guessed other people couldn't see her. There is still a lot he was yet to understand or know about his system but he wouldnt rush him self. Rome wasnt built in a day. He noticed the mans expression again and couldn't help but ask.
"You look so sad, is everything fine?"
The taxi man releases a sigh as he stops when he got to a red light. "It is just.. " he glances at Owen through the mirror and wears a sad smile. "I cant find my wife."
Owen knowingly smiles. 'Of course you cant. That is because I am the one who will find her for you. I will be the hero.'
"Oh..I am sorry about that. How about this, you know my company dont you?"
"Yes yes..I do." He starts driving gain and eagerly listens to what the man had to say.
"Come around tomorrow by mine. We will talk about it and I will help you find your wife."
The mans expression lit up and he smiles at him through the mirror. "Really? Thank you very much sir. Thank you so much. I will be there tomorrow."
Owen waves it off with his hand feeling like a big deal. "It is nothing. I do what I have to do."
His AI simply shakes her head. He doesn't know what he had gotten himself into just yet.
Meanwhile, on earth, in a hospital room, a smiling man stares back at the string of codes on his laptop. He looks around the huge well furnished room and the group of people who were chatting away and talking to him. He just nods his head at everything they were saying and continues to type in more codes on his laptop.
When he noticed that they were engrossed with their talk and wasn't paying him any attention, he looks at the huge window seeing a reflection of himself. An evil smile blooms on his face and he touches his gold hair.
"Well well, isnt this going to be fun?" He turns back and continues typing the codes. "Aren't we all, in the end, evil at heart?"
