Chapter 46 - Keeping A Lookout

Arriving at the tea party, she felt a little awkward with her brothers there, but pushed through it. So long as she had Theron she knew she'd be perfectly fine to continue.

The host of this party were Countess Gance. Rosalyn found it the perfect opportunity to be able to mingle with the other ladies with children while keeping a close eye on her as she participated with the other kids in their tea party with Lady Rhoda Gance. She had heard a vivid description of her and other children for the most part, she was confident she'd make it.

Upon reaching the gate, the guards were startled to see not only the Argyris family carriage, but four members of the family trying to attend, but Rosalyn handled the smooth talking with the invitation in hand while her brothers handled the if you look at her you'll die stance.

Breathing out, she walked straight upright, full of confidence. Her face was that of a poker face, one hand clutching the feathery fan Rosalyn gifted her and in the other holding Theron's leash as they were led to a very nicely decorated garden, with many different beautiful flowers for days, hedges, and a few trees.

It was nothing compared to the Argyris family's gardens, but it was nice for that of a Count's standards. As expected, the second they entered people stopped to look at them in disbelief, it was like she was a zoo animal that everyone was curious about. How did she move? Would she look at them? What is she doing here?

She could hear hushed murmurs amongst the adults but followed her etiquette instructions. She flashed a smile towards the crowd and covered her mouth with her fan, following the others to greet the host. A younger woman with brown hair and grey eyes, she recovered quite quickly from the shock, giving a curtsy towards them.

"What an honour to have the Argyris family attend my humble tea party. I hope the trip was not inconvenient." Raising herself, she smiled as Rosalyn exchanged greetings and formalities.

Finally as it were her turn, she gave a small curtsy with her eyes shut and a polite smile she'd learn to take over the week. "Nothing inconveniences the Argyris family, Countess Gance," she spoke as eloquently as possible, back upright again and fan opened. "we thank you for the invite. I shall excuse myself for now." With that, she managed to escape.

Her brothers tried to join in, but Rosalyn and her guard had a tight leash on them, they knew the rules for coming along. This was her time to participate in her first tea party, she had to do the majority of the work. They would only hover around her if things ended sour.

Walking with a leash and fan was not as difficult as she figured it be, or perhaps it was because Theron was such a good boy, not even growling at people who stared at him today. She wished it were only him here.

The children here were all older than her, she wasn't sure what their reactions to her would be as an Argyris. Arriving at the children's table a bit away from the adults, her eyes scanning the people around her as they observed her every move. "Lady Theia Argyris greets Rhode Gance." She curtsied to the girl she assumed would be the host's daughter, exact description as Rosalyn had gave her.

Her manners were impeccable for her age thanks to Rosalyn, it all paid off as she placed her fan to her lips, looking up at the girl who immediately greeted her as well as the other children, her title being higher than anyone else in attendance.

"Lady Theia, I'm honored you came to my tea party, I hope it was not inconvenient for you to come." Like mother like daughter she supposed. She prepared for the worst but all the children were surrounding her, some out of curiosity and some wanting graces from her.

It was annoying to do so, but she talked with them and answered basic questions about herself, even catching some gawking or avoiding her friend she brought along. Her feet wanted to rest at a chair badly, but the crowd around her wouldn't allow it just yet. "Lady Theia, your hair looks beautiful, what do you use for it?" One of the ladies asked, if she were right she was a Viscount's daughter.

"It's not as beautiful as yours is," she smiled, lowering her fan as she tucked in a stray piece of hair while thinking how lying really did come naturally. Anyone could tell that her hair was incredibly shiny and silky at the moment. "though since you're curious I could tell you." Everything was going perfectly as she conversed, slowly moving the crowd over towards the garden table where she took a seat right beside a boy she couldn't make out amongst the crowd.

Barely taking a peek over at the others, it seemed like something similar such as crowding was going on over there as well. This was the true power of the flower which produced sweet honey coated words that attracted bees all over to her before she trapped them.

Talking back with the noble children, she kept one thing in mind, something about a kid with black hair that none of them had, but didn't Rosalyn say he came from an important family or something? That she should what was it, she couldn't quite remember. Approach him? She never did say why, but perhaps it was one of Rosalyn's schemes again, the son of a noblewoman she wanted to toy with or something, it was the least she could do for the girl who spent hours on her.

But knowing that none of these children were that important was a bit more of a relief. Perhaps the other boy just hadn't arrived yet, or was one of the few that didn't approach her yet too afraid to come near and or offend her. After a few more minutes, she smiled, tapping Theron's leash lightly with a single finger to not raise suspicion as he growled, the people around her jumping or backing off.

Excusing herself to take a small walk for Theron, she was finally free from that questionnaire. It amazed her how noble children were already sucking up to her and her they believed her smiles. By the time she returned she could only hope that the boy Rosalyn was looking for would have arrived.
