Chapter 23 - Frost Fairy

The middle-aged woman's voice echoed through the room as she pointed her trembling finger at the child. "Sh-she killed her parents!" she shrieked, her eyes wide with shock and horror.

The kid stood there in a bloodied white dress, clutching a teddy bear tightly in her arms. Tears streamed down her face as she muttered, "Warhh! Mormmy darddy!" Her small, innocent face was stained with blood, which she tried to wipe away with her sleeve.

The adults around her were talking in hushed tones, trying to make sense of the gruesome scene. But the child was oblivious to it all, lost in her own world of pain and confusion. She continued to sob, her tiny frame trembling with each breath.

The child was so young that she could barely speak, except to repeat the words "Mommy" and "Daddy" over and over again. It was a heartbreaking sight to see her standing there, surrounded by the blood and carnage of her own family.

The gruesome nature of the crime was evident in the parents' lifeless bodies, pierced by several blades made of ice. Some of their limbs had been severed from their bodies, adding to the horrific scene.

The child was too young to understand the full extent of what had happened and kept on sobbing as she gave repeated cries to her mom and dad but sadly there wouldn't be any response coming from them, never.

The room was filled with tension as the man's words hung in the air. "She is a demonic child! She sacrificed their parents!" he declared, his voice trembling with anger and fear.

An elderly person spoke up in disbelief. "What do you mean? How can you even say that! We don't even know what happened here. It's too soon to make such accusations."

But the man was not convinced. "Can't you see how gruesomely she killed them!" he continued, pointing towards the child who stood there sobbing. "Have you ever heard something like this before? She is a demon!"

The room erupted into a heated argument as other adults joined in, taking sides and raising their voices. Some defended the child, arguing that she was too young to have committed such a heinous act. Others agreed with the man, saying that the evidence was too strong to ignore.

The atmosphere was charged with emotion as the argument raged on, with no clear resolution in sight. The child continued to sob, clutching her teddy bear tightly as she tried to make sense of what was happening around her. But at that moment, it seemed like the whole world was against her, accusing her of something she couldn't even comprehend.

Alaya's eyes widened in confusion as she looked around her. "What! What am I doing here?" she exclaimed, her voice shaking with uncertainty.

Alaya's eyes flickered as she found herself standing in the midst of her own memories. She looked around in confusion and said, "What am I doing here in my memories? And specifically this part of my past?"

Alaya's mind raced as she tried to make sense of what was happening to her. "I'm sure this isn't a dream, I'm too aware for it to be a dream," she said out loud, her voice echoing in the void around her.

She couldn't shake the feeling that this was somehow connected to the experience she had heard about elemental awakening. "Is this the elemental awakening?" she wondered, her thoughts racing faster than ever before.

But something felt off about the experience. It was different from what she had heard from other aurars, those who had already undergone their own awakening. This more or less felt like an illusion that she was put in.

"Your hunch is correct. This is an illusion created by me of your memories," the voice responded, sounding oddly familiar yet simultaneously foreign to Alaya.

The voice sounded like a little girl. But who was she, and how had she managed to infiltrate her memories in such a way?

"I know, I made an illusion of low intensity but still you haven't shown any emotion at all, not even by a bit," the girl spoke again, her voice tinged with disappointment.

Alaya was taken aback by the sudden sound of an unknown voice. "Who are you?" she called out, her eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of the speaker.

Alaya felt a wave of confusion and unease wash over her. Who was this girl, and what did she want from her? And more importantly, how was she able to control her memories like this?

"Okay, no need to overthink it! I'll answer your question, so don't exhaust yourself trying to figure it out," she reassured Alaya.

"Firstly, I must tell you that I am a frost fairy, and I have placed you within this illusion as a test of your worthiness to wield my powers," the fairy explained.

Alaya's eyes widened in surprise as the little girl identified herself as a frost fairy. She had only heard of such a creature before only in stories and only heard about the experience of other people with them. She couldn't bring herself to believe that it was a real fairy.

Alaya asked the fairy to prove herself, "How can I believe that you are a real fairy and not someone who is trying to cause harm?"

"Fine, but don't blame me if your belly feels strange," the fairy warned.

Without further ado, she began to materialize right in front of Alaya.

The fairy appeared to be small in stature, no more than a few inches tall. Her skin was a pale blue, glistening like ice in the sunlight. Her hair was white as snow and floated around her in a wild, untamed mess. Her wings were delicate, translucent, and shimmered with a light blue hue, as if made of ice crystals. Her eyes were a bright shade of blue, twinkling with mischievousness as she looked at Alaya.

Overall, the fairy had an ethereal and otherworldly appearance that was enchanting.

As soon as the fairy finished materializing Alaya realized she was a true fairy. She couldn't deny the huge amount of mana that radiated from her. She felt overwhelmed by her magical powers which made her feel nauseous.

"Do you believe me now?" Fairy asked pouting.

Alaya nodded.
