Rain grew tense and turned with bated breath to look behind.
A strong gush of wind struck past her feet and threw her over, tumbling her body heavily on the damp soil.
She was flung and fell on her back with a loud thud.
A throbbing pain coursed through her body, forcing tears out of her eyes and she immediately let out a low groan.
Thuds came near and started and scurried to her feet with difficulty.
As she lifted her head, the loud stomps of heavy feet inched closer and she caught sight of the creature charging at her.
Veined bulging eyes, grey cast-iron skin and a giant body glowered at her. An ogre; like she'd only heard in stories and seen in paintings…
As it stomped , its stained fangs were bared, and it roared madly. Severely furious that she'd invaded its privacy.
A cold chill sipped through Rain's spine and she stiffened. However, facing it, her first thoughts were to shut her eyes.
In haste, she tried to focus her mind on the energy around her and bring the animal to calm.
Energy surged through her veins and rushed with blood into her head, nearly draining her of strength. Sweat dripped heavily from her skin and she grew sickly pale as she focused the energy to leave her body.
"Be calm…" she recited breathlessly. When she opened her eyes however, nothing had happened. The creature was still coming at her madly. She had never done this.
Rain didn't even know the use of the energy which had haunted her entire being.
She stared at the creature with widened eyes, stricken with panic and forgetting to move her legs and flee.
Why didn't it work?! Was she going to die like this? She thought she'd some enchantment
inside of her. Something had happened once.
"Sencta violie," she recited. In a native cant and a louder tone.
Nothing changed. The creature became wilder and its roar was thunderous. It was almost at her.
"Sencta violie!"
With a loud growl, the ogre leaped towards her. Its limbs were extended, and its rugged claws came for her heaving chest.
Rain staggered and her eyes slammed shut.
Death came at s hair's breath but a tight grip suddenly enclosed her waist and she was hoisted roughly. Her body flew through air like scattered feathers.
The strength on her body was so firm that her ribs squeezed and she almost puked blood.
Behind her, there was a loud collision, an excruciating growl that caused one to shudder, a dying whine, and then everything suddenly went quiet. Her head spun and her entire body felt jumbled out of place. It took her a while before she got herself together and then she heard a voice scolding her coldly.
"Are you silly? Or do you think yourself invincible? Why stand staring…"
