The higher being called the students first, the first person that he literally called was the brat that he struck with a thunder firsthand. The student walked toward the higher being and he was given a card.
"The rarity of your ability will be judged by the class of your ability, ranging from F as the worst to SSS as the best ability.
The student looked surprised and disappointed at the same time. He looked back at the higher being and he immediately sighed. "This is a common ability, just... why?"
He then disappeared into thin air, as expected. You shouldn't even think of pissing off someone who was practically holding your life with his full power. Well, there was that, so... poor boy. What ability that the boy got though?
"Where did you send him?"
"He's in another world now, with other people. Don't worry I'll pair you with another person with considerably better ability if you get a bad ability, so you all don't need to worry.
"I won't share where he goes, or where anyone of you will go, that will be a secret, but I promise that this is not experimentation by me to pit you against another. This is just me giving you all a chance to live another life."
'Sus...'
After that, the higher being called another person. The next person was another male student. This time, once the higher being gave him a card, he was smiling and he showed the card to everyone. The card itself was similar to an RPG status card. It contained his stats alongside the skills that he got.
I only caught a glimpse of his skills, though.
[Blazing Inferno] [A]
[Wrath of Angelic Fire] [A+]
The student then disappeared into thin air, just like the previous student. After that, several students were called at once and given ability. Same as before, some of them were smiling while the others were pretty much grim.
What would happen to them, though? Would they be sent to the same place, or would they be sent to a different place just because they had a different purpose in this world? These students were better to stick together instead of being separated into multiple different places.
"Why are the students being called first?" Someone whispered right behind me.
"How the hell I should know?" I replied.
I also wanted to know the answer. Could it be that the adults had a different goal than the students? Hopefully, this higher being wouldn't pit us against each other just because we had a different age range.
Observing the students, the rare ability usually consisted of magical attacks with weird names such as [Asura's Inferno] [1,000 Swords of Wrath], etc. I considered this to be a rare magical attack since all of them were above A-rank.
It also seemed that the higher being gave the ability quite randomly, unlike what I assumed at first that anyone who acted nice to the higher being would get a better ability. I just hoped that the students that got shit ability didn't bite the other students in the back because the higher being was being unfair to him.
As time went by, the number of people decreased with a bunch of different expressions. Some of the expressions were grim, while others were not so much grim. I worried that I would get a shitty ability and be sent on my own. Even though I'm a surgeon, I doubted I could use my skill in a world where my skills were not compatible at all.
My survival skill was not that decent, it probably had rusted away ever since I left the service to continue with my own life after finishing the deal. My combat skill was out of the question, I wouldn't answer that.
Still, the students gave me more anxiety. They were teenagers for God's sake, it would be way harder for them to survive in a world where they knew nothing about and probably wanted to kill them once they arrived.
The higher being continued his work quietly, without saying anything. He just called a name and someone would come forward and be given a card with their skills on top of it before being sent to another world.
Eventually, after multiple calling, the number of students had decreased significantly and all that was left were the adults, including me. So, what the higher being would do to us? Kill us? That was a possibility, obviously.
"Ok, next, Kawamoto."
Oh, he still continued calling names. Now, time to wait for my name to be called. The adults dealt with the skills and abilities given to them way calmer for some unknown reasons, I also didn't know what ability I'd get.
Hopefully, it had something to do with my current skill sets. Right now, I only wanted healing ability since that was the only way I could be useful. If the higher being suddenly gave me the ability to use fireball, I wouldn't think I'll use it that often either.
Eventually, the number of people inside of the unknown realm started reducing one by one. Still, one thing caught my attention, a man in a suit was staying calm, even in this kind of chaotic situation.
No, it was not the kind of calm where one said nothing with his palm sweating. That man handled the situation just like this was Wednesday for him. To make matters worse, I was eventually only left alone alongside with the man.
What was the higher being planned to pair me with the mysterious man in a suit? I really hoped that this man was just a cold-hearted banker and nothing worse. For me, a man in a suit gave me more anxiety than anything, especially after the deal.
"Now, you two, I have a different plan than the others since both of you have done an abnormal amount of things in your life."
Oh no, did he mean the thing I do during the deal?
"I'll pair you together, but you two have a special assignment from me. Sawyer, Alfie, you better not disappoint me. Here's your card," The higher being gave us a card listing all of our abilities.

"Demon?" I asked the higher being why my race was different from other people. However, the expression of the man in a suit right beside me also asked the same question to the higher being.
"You two will be sent to a continent far away from the others. Unlike the others, you have the task of rebuilding the colony in that continent," the higher being said.
"Woah, us two? Why?"
"Because you need an army to stop the others from killing each other. You are tasked to keep the casualty of the people summoned here to a minimum by any means necessary," the higher being answered.
"I'm just a surgeon, who's the other guy?" I asked.
"I'm just an engineer," the man in a suit answered.
The higher being smiled smugly and sent us to another world without any introduction to our ability. It genuinely pissed me off, but well, what could I do? Complaining wouldn't take me anywhere at this point.
