Chapter 20 - The Unknown Enemy

Oriel marveled at the twisted fate; the stained dress that she had in her hand belonged to the wife of the man she met in the party last night, though it was the first time she got to know that he was married.

"Mr. Bruce? president of Bay transports?" she inquired. "Are you saying that he is already married?"

The young boy was an encyclopedia of his life and began telling everything he knew to Oriel. "Yes, he is married ever since I've heard about him. He is a devoted husband and his wife is pampered and spoiled by him. However, she is very scary, that goes without saying because she doesn't have to fear anybody. That is the reason that I am afraid she is going to fall like thunder on our shop."

Mr. John listening quietly to the boy, was trying to control his laugh. When Oriel noticed his contorted face, he suddenly let a loud chuckle out.

Hahaha...

"Mr. John! why are you laughing?" asked Oriel.

The young boy also scratched his head in confusion. "Children these days are so prejudiced about human behavior, when its essence is that it is always unpredictable," he explained. "I know that lady very well and she addresses me as her uncle. Even when she talks to a nobody like me, she never lets it show in her language. Why do you think a lady like that sends her precious clothes here when she doesn't even look at an outfit after wearing it once?"

Both of them fell into deep ponder. "I didn't think about that. Why does she even send her clothes here?" the young boy asked.

"That's because she uses them for charity purposes. I don't know what or from where you have heard such false rumors, but she is not a bad person."

Their conversation revolved around Ursula, the headstrong and bratty wife of Mr. Bruce. The lady in her mid 30s was living an empty life in her own glorious way.

-----

Her morning started with an alarm that went off beside her massive bed, she took the eye mask off her eyes and rose on her feet at once, like a robot acting on commands. Not even a blink of sleep was visible in her eyes, like she had gotten the precise duration of rest needed by her. She was glowing right after getting out of the bed. Her skin had nature's moisture like dew on early morning leaves.

She was served by her servants even for the slightest effort taking task: they brought her a pair of slippers to step in, they scattered the ironed outfits on hangers for her, and she stood leisurely choosing one among them. "This one!" she used her finger to instruct them everything.

"But I don't feel like wearing a suit today."

Ursula was deciding back and forth on her outfit for the day, being inside her wardrobe along with two maids. Just as she had moved to deciding on her shoes, a voice came through the frail door of the closet. Two house cleaners, busy organizing her room that adjoined the wardrobe, were having a savory gossip time. "Did you hear what happened at the party last night?" The two were so engrossed in the scandalous and spicy talks that they didn't realize that Ursula had her ears on their conversation.

"Are you talking about the party that happened in the farmhouse in town?" asked the other maid.

"Yes, Neo went there as a waiter yesterday. He told me that our boss has a mistress, who was with him all night."

The other two maids who accompanied Ursula inside the closet were looking at each other's faces. Meanwhile, Ursula listened to them through the gap between the flaps of the door. No expression whatsoever appeared on her face. She stood morosely staring at the gossiping girls. She was also keen to listen to the entire story from their ignorant mouths.

"That can't be true, I saw boss here last night, he had a fight with madam."

"I know, but that's because she found out and felt jealous. She called him here threatening him with a slit on her wrist, so he had no choice but to leave his mistress alone. That's why there was a fight between them."

The two maids suddenly caught the side of a bandage on he wrist and pursed their lips in wonder.

"I know she is an insane lady, she doesn't treat her husband like human, he is no less than a dog. hahaha." they chuckled. "By the way, I can totally feel our boss's pain because he has a wife like hers, I want to see how his new girlfriend looks like. she must be really beautiful and a lot nicer than the witch that our madam is."

She waited no more and abruptly came outside of the closet, giving a deadly blow to the poor helpers hearts. Seeing her their jaws hung in the air and hands trembled in fright. They immediately dropped to their knees and beg for her forgiveness. "Madam... we, we didn't know that you were inside, please forgive our foolish mouths."

"Yes, madam... we will never open these devilish mouths again, not even to eat."

Ursula didn't respond, neither with words nor with her face. It was not the first time when she overheard someone talking trash about her, for her, it was an everyday thing.

"Get your facts right, I didn't slit my wrist because I was jealous of his affair, but because I wanted him to see how miserable I am." She showed her the hand with two layer scathing of bandage.

She walked past them, suddenly stopping to say, "All four of you are fired, don't let me see your faces next time."

The other two maids felt wronged to be punished along with them, but they didn't dare to say it out loud to her, "But we didn't do anything."

She suddenly started rage up as she came inside the living room of her grand mansion. She flared her nostrils glaring in the empty space and breathed slowly to calm herself down. Her hand looked for her phone and she dialed a number that worked like water for a fish. The moment that call was answered from the other end, her furies dissolved, "I want you here right now, Collin."
