Chapter 1 - ONE

Two weeks later, Kim and Ava had already gotten themselves a new apartment like they promised, with each room to themselves.

Everything that happened for the past three months in California stressed her so much, that she began to take classes on yoga and every morning she goes for a jog before starting the day.

Today she sat at the terrace of her room, staring at California in her view. It was beautiful but why was she tearing up?

"Kim!" Ava opened her room, she wiped her eyes and turned back.

"Yeah what?" she glanced around the room, avoiding eye contact with Ava. But Ava searched for her gaze instead.

"Come out, Sandra's here," Ava says, holding the door down, while she stares at her... She could tell Kim had been crying. Her eyes were red and swollen a little.

"Oh, I would be out in a minute" She cleared her throat, picking her a cloth and pretending to fold it, even though she had unfolded them.

Ava shut the door, slowly and immediately the door was shut, Kim rushed into the bathroom turning on the tap and washing her face.

A minute later, she came out of the bathroom with a small white towel in her hands. She wiped her face, directing it to her eyes.

"Kim!" She heard Ava call, she breathed in and out slowly

"I am coming!" She yelled, picking up her phone from the bed.

Kim stepped out of the room, closing the door before her. She walked through a small passageway, into the sitting room. Their new place was spacious and breezy. As she entered the sitting room, A warm smile graced her lips, seeing Sandra with a bouquet of different colors of flowers.

Kim chuckles, stepping closer, she folded her arms across her chest "Ooou, are you getting roses now?" Kim asked with her brows raised seductively.

Ava looked away, she took the flowers from Sandra and placed them on the table.

"Actually Kim, they're for you"

"For me?" She smiled, looking at them but her smile vanished with their intense stare at her. "What?" she asked.

"I think it's from Miran" Ava handed her a small note. Kim looked at them speechless. She gave a quick smile before opening the notes.

Miran: "Congratulations on moving, yours" Kim chuckled, she raised her gaze, shaking her head continuously. It was Miran, the "YOURS" made her smile and blush.

"It's him, right?" Ava raised her head trying to take a peep.

"Yeah, mine?" she mimicked, taking the roses off the table. "How did he even know this new address?" Kim asked, she hadn't discussed such with him, and she left before she could even decide.

"Maybe..."

"Maybe what?" Kim asked, eager to know what Ava was about to say.

Ava shook her head, "Maybe he's stalking you!" Ava suggested.

"Is that the best?

"You have a stalker?" Sandra asked.

"No, I don't!" Kim laughed, looking at Ava.

"I have never had one," Sandra says, focused on Kim.

"No, I don't have a stalker... he's not a stalker" Kim defended, holding the roses well.

"Well, how would you explain this? Maybe he followed you?" Ava says, picking the bottle of wine from the table, she took her glass and poured wine into it.

"He wouldn't dare, he has so much to handle... it's Miran so I'm sure he has his ways" She says, either way, Miran did things like a stalker but she wouldn't call him that.

"You're not throwing it away are you?" Ava eyed followed her as she headed into the kitchen, with the rose.

Kim laughed, shrugging.

"Kim, come on... you ain't throwing those babies away are you?" Ava asked, following her, Sandra followed behind, taking the bottle of wine along.

"Of course I am," Kim says.

"Why?? They are pretty!" Sandra pouts.

"Do you hate him now?" Ava pouts alongside Sandra.

"No, I don't!" Kim looked back at Ava and Sandra, they acting cute wasn't something she wanted now.

"Hold up, the guy we are talking about is the one from the hospital right?" Sandra looked away from Kim to Ava.

"Yeah that one, he's the sweetest man you would ever know, "Ava says, holding her chest as she speaks.

"Wow, so why did she leave him?" Sandra sat on a stool, hoping to hear a story or something but Kim looked away. "Oh," Sandra sipped her drink disappointedly.

Kim opened the trash can, and tossed the rose inside, she dusted her hands looking at them, they had a disappointing look on their faces

"That's enough, are we watching the movie or do you want to talk about me?" She asked, stepping out of the kitchen. Ava and Sandra followed after her.

"Yeah, Kim, are you done packing?" Ava asked from behind.

"Huh? packing?" Kim stopped and looked back at her.

"Ah, the side effect of traveling with Miran, well I'm sorry, pretty lady you need clothes and other necessities when traveling!" Ava dropped on the soft white couch.

"Ava that's okay, I will pack up later," She says, a little irritated.

"Later? we are leaving tomorrow morning" Ava looked up at her.

They both stared at themselves for a while, Sandra interrupts.

"I'm gonna miss you guys" Sandra sat watching them, they both narrowed their gaze at her and scoffed.

In Dubai, Miran who hasn't been to California ever since Kimimela declined his proposal. Decided to focus on work and his long-time projects he had postponed spending time with Kim.

"Good morning sir" A lady in a black suit greets.

"Did she receive the flowers?" Miran asked, walking past her with Tony by his side.

"Yes," Tony replies.

"Okay, thank you" he opened the door to his office and headed straight to his chair.

"Mr Mayer? she is in Mexico," Tony says, with his head lowered.

Miran looked at him, "You invited Aisha. Why can't I come?" Kim's laugh faded in his head, "Sure, you can," she kisses him. "But, I have to warn you, you'll be all on your own." Miran smiled remembering how she promised to take him along.

"Already?" He asked, focused on this device.

"She landed five hours ago," Tony continued.

"Thank you, Tony," he looked away. "You don't have to report on her every move," He says.

"Alright sir," Tony nodded. He turned around to leave when the door opened with force.

"Miran!" Mrs Farah Mayer— Miran's mother barged into his office. Miran raised his gaze, his eyes opened wide, surprised to see her. He sighed knowing she must have heard about Kim in town.

"Mom? this is my workplace, you don't..." He gets interrupted by her.

"I heard my daughter-in-law was in town?" Miran leaned backwards, smiling. She just called her daughter-in-law.

"What?" he cleared his throat hoping she would repeat it, while a warm smirk graced his lips.

"Kimimela, where is she?" Mrs Farah asked, walking closer to him.

"She isn't here right now," Miran tells her.

"Why? what happened?" Mrs Farah asked.

"That was two weeks ago, how are you?" Miran gave Tony a sign to leave.

"Why didn't you bring her home?" She ignored his questions.

"Mom, she left me." He dropped his pen, spinning his chair in her direction.

"Oh, she's in California?" Mrs Farah sat opposite him.

"Yes, she doesn't want to mine anymore, she rejected my offer. I thought she loved me..." Miran found himself whining.

"You asked her to marry you?" Mrs Farah interrupted.

"Of course, and I think I made a mistake," He sighed. Kim leaving him hadn't really dawned on him just yet.

"Miran, you didn't..." Mrs Mayer held his hands. ``I'm sure she has a good reason to reject the offer, why don't you head back to California..."

"She doesn't want to see me," He whispered.

"How sure are you? I like her and the fact you want to marry her... she's a good choice" She tells him.

"You sure do," he laughed, getting up.

"Why don't you head back to California and get your woman back!" Mrs Farah got up along with him.

"Thanks, mom, but she's in Mexico" Miran placed his hand on her shoulders.

"With family?"

"Yeah" He nodded.

"That makes it better, make sure they like you, you gat this! I mean look at you, you're hot and have money... impress her family!" She winks at him.

"Kimimela is different," Miran giggled.

"That's why I like her, make sure you bring her home for a proper introduction. I want my friends to meet her" Miran smiled.

"You think she would accept me?" He moved back a little.

"Of course," Mrs Farah nodded, looking at her son.

"You're the best, mom"

"Well, you can go to Mexico after you escort me to Oman" Miran rolled his eyes, she didn't entirely come for Kim.

"For what?" He breathed out.

"I need to get a painting," She says

"Painting?" he raised his gaze at her. Mrs Farah had a smile on.

"Yeah, they are being placed for auction, your father has refused to follow me again" She stared at him, waiting for a reaction.

"Don't you get tired of spending?" Miran asked, they both stared at each other, while she searched for a perfect answer for him, Miran awaited her reply.

"Do you?" she tilted her head, proud of her reply.

Miran looked away, "You have a point"

"Anyways, we are flying in the next two hours"

"What?" He leaned forward confused, two hours? he had so much to cover up

"I tried calling you, but they said you were in a meeting," she says.

"Oh, my" Miran blinked countless times, pushing his hair backwards.

"See you then," she forced a smile, walking out of the office.

"Call Tony on your way out" she waves, closing the door behind her, soon after Tony stepped in.

"My schedule?"

"Well Sir, you have a meeting in the next one hour, and the wine factory in Mexico asked for a conference call, you have to visit the..."

"That's enough, I need you to attend in my place"

"Understood, but all?"

"No, leave Mexico for me and tell them I would be attending personally"

"Personally?"

"Yeah, make arrangements for me, a car is important and"

"Sir? you're going to Mexico?"

"Would you like to stay in your hotel?"

"Yes, the penthouse" he heard a knock on the door, they both turned to the door.

"Mr Mayer? Miss Fadel is here"

"Fadel? Lina?" He looked at Tony, he thought she wasn't in Dubai.

"No Sir, she just said Fadel," The lady says.

"Alright, let her in" he heads back to his chair confused. Lina was the only Fadel he knew and she wasn't in town.

"I would let you know if there is any other thing," Tony says, about to leave, the door opens and Fatima steps in.

"Thank you, Tony," he got up staring at her.

"Hi, Tony?" Fatima graced her lips with a warm welcoming smile, staring back at him. "Hi Miran" she took her eyes off him to Miran.

"Should have known" Miran looks away.

"Lina Fadel," she calls, smiling.

"What are you doing here?" Miran's eyes turned cold, Fatima could tell he wasn't pleased to see her.

"Seems like you weren't expecting me" Her smile faded.

"No I wasn't... why should I?" He picked a book pretending to read.

"Where's your little butterfly?" She snickered.

Miran closed the book in anger, gawking at her.

"I only asked, I wasn't going to hurt her" She replied to his expression.

"Why are you here?" Miran questioned.

"Because you've been avoiding my calls," Fatima says, pouting at him. Miran's face showed deep disgust and he didn't care to hide it.

"Look Fatima..." his voice softened.

"You know it was supposed to be Mrs Mayer," She says, smiling and waiting for a reaction.

"Stop it, whatever happened between us ended five years ago. Why can't you forget that?"

"It would be fun to play with your butterfly," Miran breathed.

"I have something important to do"

"Is she pregnant?" Fatima asked, folding her hands together.

"What? Are you serious??"

" I guess not"

"Don't do anything stupid, it won't end well Fatima,"

"You know... she's lovely I see why you like her"

"That's enough, why are you in my office?" Miran asked.

"She trusts you so much, I was going to tease her a little but she didn't want to hear..." Fatima continued.

"You're insane," He breathed, about to leave.

"Does she know about our baby?" Fatima interrupted, seeing he wasn't interested.

Miran turns back at her, his face filled with rage, how he wished he could strangle her till she breathed her last breath.

"That child's blood is on your head," Fatima says, maintaining eye contact with him, his eyes were red and his face was also red and heated.

"You promised to be with me, we would have been a perfect family" Despite the anger shown on his face, She kept talking.

"I wasn't in love, Fatima... we couldn't work" His voice softened with anger.

"That's why you left me like that?" Fatima sniffled and wiped her eyes while looking away. "Hold her dear, if you don't want to lose her," Fatima took her bag off the couch.

"Don't dare, I am warning you"

"Nice threat, I like that side of you, Miran" Fatima touched his chest, adjusting his collar, she raised her gaze at him and smiled.

"Don't think I won't hesitate to silent you..."

"I know you won't... I am not killing her" She takes her hand off him, moving backwards.

Miran inhaled, he grabbed his phone and took a long glance at her before storming out of the office angrily.

"Mr Mayer" Tony calls, looking into his office, Fatima smiled, waving at him quickly as he followed Miran into the elevator.

"I don't want her in my office again," Miran says, the elevator closed.
