We pull up to Shawn's house and get out of Pops' SUV. The driveway is empty, and it looks as if nobody's been here in days. "What's the plan here?" Pops asks as Bree, Kayla, Olivia, and Lizzy join us. Ms. James and Dad are at home with Caleb.
"We look for my parents," Kayla says.
"We can't just barge in," Olivia comments.
"Is there any other option?" I question. "We do need a plan but barging in would be more surprising to him if he is there. We should barge in but be ready for him to try something."
"And that's the only plan?" Kayla questions.
"If they're in there. Bree, Kayla, and I can hold Shawn off while everyone else gets Kayla's parents." I shrug. We all nod and go up to the front door. I turn the knob and push the door open as we quickly enter the building. It's small but roomy as Shawn sits in the only chair here.
"Took you long enough," he smirks as everyone searches the house.
"What does that mean?" I keep some distance between us as I question.
"I've been waiting for you," he stays where he is. "You want Kayla's parents back, but I want something in return."
"What?"
"Meet me in two weeks."
"There's nothing here except this." Lizzy hands me a piece of folded paper as the group stands with me.
"Unless you want to come with me now," Shawn stands and we all tense even more. "I am your father after all. I just want to be with my son."
"I am not your son. Nothing can change who my family actually is," I glare at him.
"Fine, have it your way," he steps back. "I'll see you in two weeks." With that, he leaps out of the back window. We all try to follow him but go back to the SUV when we find the effort fruitless
