She took that a lot better than I thought she would. She looked scared when I first changed but I think she's okay with it now. At least I hope so. She seems okay with it and she and Olivia made a joke about my wing. I hope I made the right call.
"So, you guys actually gonna make that thing for my wing?" I break the silence as the house comes into view.
"We can try," Olivia shrugs, looking at Lizzy before she speaks.
"It might take a while to get it right."
"Good enough. I love flying up to the mountain," I nod.
"So you don't hike," Lizzy slightly smirks as she calls out my lie.
"No, they would ride on my back. It always meant I'd be sore after getting home but it's fun. It'd suck if we never got to go up there like that with you and Bree too," I smile remembering all the times I took everyone up there. Dad was always scared of falling off but Pops made him come.
"So, do you think that wolf was a werewolf or something?" Olivia smiles as she asks.
"I mean I can turn into a dragon so it could be," I shrug.
"You said it was huge, fast, and strong. That screams werewolf to me," we reach the back porch before going inside to find the room empty. Lizzy gives me a slightly worried look so I point to the open basement door near the hall
"Agreed," Olivia and I say as I reach for the door.
"Can we leave Caleb out of this secret?" Lizzy looks across the room to the basement door. "He's only ten and I don't want him to be put into something he won't be ready for."
"Yeah, of course," Olivia and I nod and we all go downstairs.
"Hey," Bree glances over as the two play the game. "Did it go as well as you'd hoped?" Caleb passes her.
"Sort of," Olivia sits next to Caleb while Lizzy and I sit in front of the couch.
"I'm winning," Caleb smiles as he focuses on the game.
"Just like on the bikes," I smirk.
"Are you sure you haven't played this before?" Bree asks, her accent showing as she jokingly gets upset.
"We don't have this game at home. We only have DVDs," Caleb nods with an adorable smile.
"Then you're a natural," Lizzy smiles at him.
"Just like me," Olivia brags. "I think racing is my calling."
"Just because I suck at racing games doesn't mean you're a natural. I beat you in all the fighting games," I argue her statement.
"Well, we're not talking about fighting games," she counters.
"Okay, and?"
"Shut up," she kicks me slightly and I bump against Lizzy who laughs at us.
"Oh, can you take me for a ride on your motorcycle now?" Caleb gets off the couch.
"If Lizzy allows," we both look at Lizzy with pleading eyes.
"You guys don't have to give me those looks, I won't stop you," she laughs as we jump up and head for the door.
"Hey, another helmet," Caleb points out the two helmets next to the door.
"Yeah, I got it right before I wiped out," I grab the helmets. "So, you guys could keep one at your place."
"Really?" he smiles excitedly. I smile at how cute the little dude is.
"Yeah, I hand him the blue helmet and he quickly gets it onto his head. It fits better than mine but he's still small so it's slightly big. "We can go out to the track I made a while ago."
"It's not dangerous is it?" Lizzy asks as Bree turns the TV off.
"No, at least not when I avoid the jumps," I shrug.
"I still don't like that track," Dad comes into the living room.
"Yeah, but I'm careful."
"Let's go," Caleb looks up at me through the helmet.
"Okay, you guys can just follow the trail out back if you want to," I inform Olivia, Bree, and Lizzy and I pick Caleb up over my shoulder, making him laugh. They nod and I take Caleb outside. I set him down next to the bike and put my helmet on before we get on. Situating him safely, I start the bike, giving it a rev before actually going anywhere.
As I round the house to the back I see Bree, Olivia, and Lizzy walk towards the trail. I make the engine rev again and they look over as I pass them. Caleb laughs over the engine before yelling something I can't hear.
"What!?" I call over the engine.
He turns his head slightly to make sure I can hear him this time before saying, "can this go on dirt too?"
"Yeah, I come back here all the time!" he nods after I answer.
It only takes a few minutes to get to the small track I made after getting this bike. It's a simple oval with two jumps in the middle. One jump is pretty small while the other is a bit bigger. I haven't tried it yet but I plan to.
As I go around the oval a few times the girls come down the trail. When they get to the tree line surrounding the track I slow down and Caleb and I lift the face shields on our helmets as the engine slows and becomes a little quieter.
"Think we could do the small jump? I've done it a million times," I look at Lizzy for permission to take her brother on it.
"What about the big one?" Caleb points.
"I haven't even done that one by myself yet, kid," I tell him. "I might be able to do it while you're here though."
"Can we go on the small one first?" we both give Lizzy the same look we did in the house.
"Are you sure it's not too dangerous?" Bree looks at the track and back to Caleb and I.
"Yeah, I do it all the time. He just has to hold on tight," I nod.
"If he gets hurt it's on you," Lizzy says in the most threatening way I've heard her speak.
"Got it," I give her a curt nod and we put the face shields back down. I make sure Caleb sits in the best position to do the jump without falling off and he holds tightly to me. "Ready?"
I feel him nod and take off. I go around the oval twice before getting lined up with the small, dirt ramp I go on all the time. This time I'm more cautious of the small person clinging to me as I rev the engine. After a second of waiting, I take off. Once we're off the ground Caleb's arms tighten their grip as he makes sure not to fall off.
Once we hit the ground again he keeps his tight grip as I go back to the others and stop. He hops off the bike and sits cross-legged in the dirt as he smiles through the gap where he lifted the face shield. "That was fun."
"So fun you had to sit down?" Lizzy chuckles.
"It was fun but I think I'd rather wait to do it again," he nods and we all nod in understanding.
"I can try the big one," I tell him.
"You don't have to," he shrugs as he takes the helmet off and sets it in his lap.
"I think I can do it. Don't you believe in me?" I joke.
"Are you sure?" Olivia asks. "You just recovered."
"Yeah, if I wipe out it shouldn't be too bad. It's not that big a jump," I nod and look at the pile of dirt.
"Don't wipe out," Lizzy tells me.
"I'll do my best," I take off again and do the same as the small jump. This time I take a long and deep breath. I got this. I know what I'm doing. I take off towards the jump and refuse to hesitate as my bike leaves the ground. I've flown higher as a dragon but it's different on the bike. I don't have wings to make sure I land safely. It's just me, my helmet, and the bike. As I keep the bike steady I do my best to keep it that way as the tires hit the ground again.
Bouncing slightly as I go to turn back into the oval too fast, I end up thrown off the bike and into the leaves. With a slight groan at the small pain of hitting the ground so abruptly, I look up and I'm face to face with the same wolf that attacked me.
Its eyes burning into mine. The hazel eye mirrors my own as it just stands there.
I scramble backward as I hear running towards me. When I blink the animal is gone as if it was never there. "Are you all right?" Olivia asks as she, Lizzy, Bree, and Caleb come to my side.
"Yeah," I shake my head at the wolf and get up. "I'm fine."
"I told you not to wipe out," she punches my arm as I brush myself off.
"At least I'm not hurt," I take my helmet off and stick my tongue out at her.
