"The final test will test your intelligence; you will have one hour to learn a technique of your choice, and depending on how much you comprehend, that will be the number of points you get. In front of you is a stele. Put your hand on it and pick the magic technique you want to learn. Mana potions will be available so that you can test your magic as much as possible. You have 5 minutes to choose; once you pick, the timer will start immediately."
A style similar to the one that has appeared multiple times rose from the ground. This one, however, had a screen-like display replicating a monitor screen from Earth.
Alaric walked up to it and touched the screen. The screen flashed before having a timer flash on the top right. In the middle of the screen were multiple categories. It seemed to be the rank of the different techniques. Only low and middle ranks were lit up as high ranks, and supreme ranks were grayed out. Sadly there was no celestial rank, so Alaric still didnt know how good of a technique that book was.
Alaric thought for a moment before picking the middle-ranked techniques. After clicking, the screen flashes different colors. Each color had different words on top of it.
Red said the fire, blue said water, green said Earth, and yellow said air. It seemed that the colors matched what the wheel had.
All these colors were the stereotypical elements you would see in a fantasy world. Alaric thought for a moment before picking his element. He wanted to pick water but hesitated.
He already had the potential for water-type abilities, so it would be a waste for him to choose it.
Alaric already figured out he could create his skills, so it would be better if he got another base skill so he could develop different skills. After thinking for a bit, he chose to air.
'Air is a good choice because it is everywhere. Also, I can fly using it!'
Alaric's eyes shone as he thought of himself flying in the air.
He hurriedly picked the air category, but another set of categories dampened his mood.
'Just let me pick already!'
Although his happy mood diminished a bit, he still took the time to look at the categories. There was defense, close range, range, and movement.
Alaric already had thoughts of flying, so he still went for the movements section. Looking at the clock, he had 3 minutes left, so he hurriedly looked at each option.
'Wind dash, Levitation...'
Tons of books with descriptions of each one were listed on the screen. Alaric immediately looked at Levitation when he saw it.
*Levitation: This allows the user to levitate an inch above the ground. Slow, but it helps refine the user's grasp on the wind element.*
Alaric's face fell when he saw the description. What kind of crappy skill is this? His rapidly beating heart was as slow as a turtle as he deflated like a balloon.
Thinking about his water ball skill, he exited that category and entered the range category. Since it would be easier to start with something pretty simple and transform it from there, he chose a skill called breeze.
As the name suggests, it just gives a slight breeze.
'This can be a good starter spell that has great potential.'
Choosing the book on the screen, the screen's timer hit zero.
"Now that you have chosen your skill, you have one hour to refine this skill as best as possible. The skill library will be open to you if you want to change your technique. It starts now."
Looking at the plain blue book in front of him, he picked up the book and started reading. Everything in the book was completely new ground for him.
In the book, it only had a diagram with a human on it. There were four different colors. Red, blue, green, and yellow all represent each color. Green dots could be seen throughout the human diagram. Another diagram had the same green dots, but a black dot in the middle called the mana core.
Mana from that mana core would go through the green points in a certain way to create magic.
Alaric already had an inkling of what to do and how to do it, but he only had one problem. He didn't have a mana core! At least that's what he thought.
He has never felt where his mana was coming from. So, to figure out the solution, Alaric did the first thing he could think of. Create water balls with mana to see if he feels where his core is.
Standing up, Alaric positioned himself facing a wall. Focusing on the spell, he charged it up to the max. He then shot it out, producing a big splashing sound.
Alaric was in deep thought for a couple of minutes. He seemed to feel the energy coming from his body. The only problem was that there was no central point. It came from every part of his body.
After finding that out, he figured out the movements of the mana and was able to direct it somewhat.
Following the route taken in the diagram with his mana, he tried using it. However, nothing came out. Only after his 4th try did something come out.
It was just a little breeze, but it was enough for him as he got something better out of it.
'Oh ho, I got another point for that!'
'Let's name it Wind Breeze'
Description: Wind Breeze creates a small gale of air that can be used to blow opponents away. It does not need a medium and can be used anywhere. Wind Breeze uses the air around the caster to create the gale. Cast time: Half of a second,+1 mana used when adding a distance of half a meter, a max of 5 meters. Mana required: 5 initial use, scales up one extra mana per meter, max mana use 10.> 'Not that great of a skill, but it is a starter one, so I can't be picky with it.' Looking at the clock, only 5 minutes passed. Alaric's eyes widened, looking at the clock for a moment and then at the screen with all the books on it. "No way, do I have all these books to myself!"
