Chapter 12 - Chapter 11 | Master of the library

"Terla,...Terla…."

"Mmmm…?" Terla finally responded.

"Where are you zoning out? I've been calling you like a thousand times."

"Ahh..,nothing." "Oh, almost forgot! Bro, do you have magic restoring potion anyhow?"

"Miss, you've asked the right person. I just made one this morning."

"So, you have?"

"Sure. But why do you need it? Your magic ran out again?"

"Yeah, as always. But this time it's taking longer…"

"Ok, it's in my potion room. Let's go down first."

Lucas grabbed Terla's hand and jumped down onto the wall.

"Hey wait, I haven't finished my burger." in Terla's hand a bite of burger was hanging.

Terla shouted but it's too late since she was already in the air when the voice reached Lucas.

"Ahh, I forgot." Lucas mumbled.

"What?..." before Terla got an answer, the two started to fall…

"Sorry, I forgot Lizard Feet has a time limitation." Lucas smiled awkwardly.

"What??!!!!!! Then drink another one!!!"

"I don't have another one."

"What do you mean by that? We should just fall and die? And wait, how many floors are there in the tower?"

"Ahh, I'm not sure. Maybe 50?"

"Wha...!!!!! You can still be this relax falling from the rooftop of a 50-storeied building?"

"Of course. Don't I have you? You can teleport…"

"Bro!!!!!!!" Terla bawled and Lucas finally realised what she meant.

"Damn…"

'Anna, can you force out my magic again?'

'Nope.' Anna answered abruptly.

'Wha..?You won't just let your new master die like this, right?'

'You are not my master.'

'But we made a contract, didn't we? You should protect me.'

'There's no need.'

'???'

Not long after, Terla felt a strong pull from the tower. She wasn't sure of the reason but her intuition told her she's safe.

Terla grabbed back Lucas's hand and… soon they, together, were dragged into the tower with a force of air whirling around them.

The whirl died down and they touched the ground again.

"Where are we? Miss, didn't you say you ran out of magic? How come you can teleport now? Were you trying to scare me to death?"

"No, I didn't." Terla said as she looked around.

They were in a library, an old library Terla is very familiar with.

"Why am I here again?" Terla murmured.

'The library is calling out to its master.'

'Master? Me?'

'Not yet. But very soon.'

*Ahook* *Ahook*

"Why is there so much dust in here?" nearby, Lucas was walking around curiously while fighting against dust storms with dissatisfaction.

'You should send him back first. You can come back again later.'

'Okay.'

"Bro, we should go back to your room first."

"What? Aren't you curious? Let's stay here for a little longer…" he choked as he saw Terla's glare.

*Ahem*

"I mean…if you wish." he swiftly moved to find the door.

"Oh here's the door.."

"Let's go." Terla followed.

When they arrived at the potion room, Lucas quickly found the potion Terla asked.

"Here it is."

It was a potion bottle with a faint gold glow.

Terla took and looked at it curiously, "You sure, this will work?"

"Of course… look at that glow in it. I …"

Without listening to Lucas, Terla gulped down the liquid.

.

.

.

.

*____* nothing happened.

Terla thought she would feel special effects like feeling light and energised, but nothing she expected happened.

Terla looked at the empty bottle and asked Lucas, "It isn't working?"

Lucas laughed as he said, "Be patient, Miss. Good things take time."

About a minute later, nothing still happened.

"Seriously?" Terla was a little disheartened but Lucas kept counting seconds under his breath.

A few more seconds passed and Terla was already feeling like giving up.

But suddenly, she felt a certain urge of magic inside her. She felt something driving through her veins rapidly and filling up every capillaries of hers.

Terla tried out the magic surging up in her body.

"Wow, bro. Your potion is quite something."

"That's for sure. You are the one who doesn't believe me."

"Yes, yes, boss, your potions are really one of a kind. I am looking forward to working with you."

"Imm…" Lucas nodded in a proud manner.

"Then, shall I take my leave now, boss. As you see, it's almost dark and I have some business to deal with."

*Ahem*

"Yes, you may." this time, he replied like an old man.

Terla swiftly went to the library where an astounding view greeted her.

Some minutes ago, 'You go up. I have something to do.'

'What is it?'

' Enough with questions. Just go up.'

'Oh…' Terla had to leave helplessly.

'You are finally here. What's taking so long?'

'Ahh…, nothing much.'

'So, has your magic been restored?'Terla poured out some magic into the air.

Surprisingly, her magic scattered into particles and flew in different directions which soon disappeared into thin air.

'???' Terla watched the scene with wide eyes.

Not long ago, when she opened the library door, it was totally different from when she left the room. It was completely spotless without any dust or a single strand of spider webs. The room was bright and shining with all the chandeliers being lighted and all the curtains opened.

It was such a grand library.

'I asked them to clean the library.'

'And they did? Just in this amount of time?'

'What do you mean this amount of time? You are the one who is late. We were all waiting for your return.'

'For magic?' Anna nodded.

'Then what about you, you don't need it.'

'I am just full. I have a living bag of magic don't you think?'

'Living bag?'

'Wha!!! You are saying I'm your living supply?!!!'

Anna ignored and flew to the nearby places, which seem to be where Terla's magic disappeared.

Terla shut up and walked to where Anna is.

'She's talking to someone?'

'They are elemental low-spirits.' Anna explained.

'What? Don't say you were ordering them around…'

'So what? They are paid well, aren't they?'

'You mean my magic? You know mine runs out easily but you still use it as you wish.'

Anna didn't respond at first but… 'It won't.' and she flew away again.

'Come here.'

'?'

When Terla arrived at the place, there was a huge rune drawn on a circular platform.

'What is this? How come I've never seen this before.'

'Stand on it.' Anna instructed.

Terla stepped on it and the rune started to glow in different colours, sometimes deep red, sometimes as blue as ocean water and another time as colourful as a rainbow. The rune continued to glow and change colour with her every step until she reached the centre of the platform. The glows all died down in an instant and even the lights from the chandeliers went out. She was sure the curtains were still open but no light reached her. To say it is dark, it is not dark again. It was not warm or cold. She could not feel any air around her but somehow she was still breathing. She couldn't see anything but she was seeing a neverending abyss in front of her.

'What is this? Why am I feeling so empty all of a sudden?'

'It's nothingness. The form of pure magic you possess.' Anna's voice rang in her ears.

'You mean my magic is in the form of nothing?'

'Yes, because it is nothing, it can be anything.'

Terla couldn't grasp what she even meant.

At another corner, Anna sighed as she shook her tiny little head.

'It's okay if you don't understand yet. Because, once you figure it out, you will no longer…'

*sigh*

'???'

"Now, I will transfer you the ownership of this library as the only authorised guardian spirit left of this place." Anna's true voice sounded so grand and majestic.

"Terla Tanysha Ophelia, do you accept my offer?"

'How did she know my name?'

"Terla Tanysha Ophelia!"

"Ahh, yes."

"Are you willing to accept the ownership of this place?"

"Yes, yes."

"Are you willing to protect it and its people at the cost of your life?"

'People? It has people too? And why do they need my protection and even my life…'

"Terla.."

"Ah yes! Yes! Please don't call my name with that scary voice again."

"The oath of obligation has been made, the ritual will start."

"The candidate, offer your blood."

'?', before Terla could respond, a drop of blood flowed out from the tip of her finger onto the rune.

The quiet rune suddenly glowed in blood red colour and Anna announced,

"The ritual has been satisfied. From now on, Terla Tanysha Ophelia has become the official owner of the library."

'What is official when only she and I…'

"Greetings to our new master. Warmly welcome, Master." voices roared out around her.

'k.n..o…w….'

In an instant, the emptiness disappeared, thousands of glows replaced it.

They are different in colour and sense.

She felt cold on the left side of her back and hot on the other side.

In front of her were a huge group of pure gold and white light glows made of no less than a thousand and just beside was complete darkness. She couldn't see anything through that darkness but she knew well what that meant. 'Light spirits' and 'Dark spirits'.
