The last room inside the shrine was a large dome whose walls seemed to be made of little stars. The floor was silver and sapphire blue. But there was something that was off. Something that broke the beauty: mist.
Black mist clinging to the walls, black mist creeping over the floor. Black mist that covered the air.
"Black mist?" Igneous asked, frowning. "Black mist in here?"
"This doesn't make sense," Alya shook her head. "The black mist can't be in here."
"Well clearly it can," Elian crossed his arms. "We're all watching it."
Alya screwed up her face and shook her head. "This can't be… it just can't be. If the mist reached the inside of the shrine…"
"Not even the shrines are that pure," Elian completed.
Indeed, the rakna that was mined from the shrines was what made the barrier that protected the cities of the Federation possible. These rakna barriers were what kept the black mist away.
