Chapter 31 - ... is a wolf's strength.

Asher

Exhale.

Inhale.

Exhale.

"Shit. Shit. Shit." I cursed rolling and tossing then staring up at my ceiling.

"I'm beginning to think that's the only word you know."Begherius chided. Ignoring him I stood walking to my table and powered my laptop.

"Why didn't you know this earlier?" I asked watching the booting system.

"Instinct. There's no vault of knowledge prerecorded and stored in my head,I just know at the moment. I think it was instinct telling me to follow them. Just I thought different and assumed we were to join." Begherius explained.

"But... Once Michael entered my head, well his wolf we fought and I won." I stared at the now running laptop perplexed.

"How'd you beat him but I lost to him at the school, I don't get it ?". I scrolled through the system logging into my browser.

"I think it has to do with how you turned. I don't exactly know why but I doubt you'd be able to beat me if I somehow separated from you. I'm just that strong." I could hear the pride in his voice my eyes taking another circular journey.

"Whatever. But that means in my world shape I'm not completely like you. Is there something missing?" I asked.

"I feel so. I don't know what. So don't ask but I just feel like you need to complete something, who knows." Begherius deadpanned.

"Fine whatever. Just adds to the list if several things that I need to find out." I grumbled.

"The symbols, have you given up on finding anything about them." He asked curiously. I just sighed. There was nothing and now I was back to ground zero. If I had joined the pack I could have used them to try finding things out about the symbol but now I had no connections again.

You made the right choice. Lone wolves rarely survive.

"I'm toast".

"Indeed you are."Begherius spoke. I raised an eyebrow. "Like my death won't be yours too". I chided. A smirk adorning my cheeks at his silence.

"I have a suggestion." Begherius started. "Lobe wolves don't necessarily have to be alone."

I raised an eyebrow at his suggestion.

"That's sounds more cryptic than suggestive".

"If you can't be bonded to an alpha then become an alpha. Alphas always have packs." I froze.

"How am I supposed to become an Alpha exactly?" I asked curiously.

"Well there's two ways. Challenge an alpha for his position. Battle is usually to the death or till one submits." My head began shaking side to side effectively portraying my disagreement.

"Or you can just create your own pack". He ended.

"You say it like there's a free pack creation option for all newly turned wolves." I scoffed. Silence was all I got.

"Wait don't tell me there's actually one". I spoke getting shocked.

"No there's none dumbass." Begherius deadpanned his voice hinting his frustration.

*How do you learn these words. I'm certain I don't speak such.

"Oh. You speak much worse. I think I have a full jar from the amount of vulgarity leaving your lips." I growled narrowing my eyes.

"Stop whimpering" he chided stunning me. "Anyway back to the point. Create your pack means ... You'd have to go about finding strong fellas and biting them to ..."

"Hell no".

"That's the only way to create a pack." He growled.

"I can barely protect myself and you want me to drag someone else into it." I argued.

"You've seen the strength of a pack. Each wolf has his individual strength, but even a alpha can't stand against the full might of numbers. That's the strength of a pack, overwhelming their prey or enemy."

I rubbed my palms over my face.

"Think if your mom. How long till those wolves come knocking and she gets caught in-between. You can take down what , four , five, what of the sixth and the seventh. You said it yourself you can't even keep yourself safe. How would you be able to keep your dear Aurora safe?"

"She's not..."

"What if the vampires come for her?. She woke under the same tree as you, and you find you can't be by bonded to an alpha. If she meets a coven leader what's gonna happen?" He stopped talking abruptly then sighed.

"Lone wolves..."

"...don't make it to winter. I know I know." I sighed exhausted.

"First I gotta warn Aurora something similar might go down with her." Then freezing I realized I still didn't have a phone. Shit.

"Your dictionary needs an update" Begherius sassed. Rolling my eyes I ignored him then exiting my room I listened for my mum's heartbeat. Slowly opening her door I peeped in watching her jumbled up in the covers. My eyes strolled about the room landing straight on the family pictures on her table. From the one with an older version of me in it hugging mum to the one with all three then back to just two of us. I sighed shutting the door and leaving the room.

If I couldn't even protect mum then there was no use. Whether I liked it or not this was my life now. Guess morality wouldn't help me here.

"Fine. But we do it my way". I spoke. A hum echoing in my mind as a voice agreed.

"First make sure Aurora's safe" I exited the house shutting the door behind me. Slipping into the side where the darkness hung I stripped and folded my clothes up before the cracks of bones washed over me.

"You are getting used to it now. Good".

"I have no choice. Aurora's right after all. This is what we are now." My blue eyes gazed up to the half moon in the dark sky as the burned a brilliant gold. Picking the cloth in my jaws I leaped out the yard into the streets and tore into the woods my gaze fixed ahead.

From an aerial view in the woods a lone wolf black as the night traversed the grounds head held up high and proud. As the half moon shone down the wolf seemed to blur and split a dark haze that formed yet another wolf much bigger appearing around it. Both running as one. A howl ripped through the night stirring the woods and awakening it's children.

The halfmoon was beautiful in it's own way, shining like a bulb in the black sky. It's light showed a good path for the biker as he rode on the empty streets his helmet reflecting the half moon. Glad for the moon's presence he made a turn as he pondered how he'd have seen the road with his damaged headlights. Checking his digital watch he grimaced at the time flashing back at him before he increased his speed. He'd been on the road for hours now and he seriously wanted to get to Riders crest before midnight. Atleast there would be a motel for him to use till the morrow.

A distant howl caught his attention as he turned to look to the direction.

"Wolves?". He murmured. Increasing his speed yet again his speedometer climbing up to 80mph the asphalt flew past continuously like a mirage.

His gaze went up for a second to the halfmoon as he quickly admired it then dropped down to watch the road again. A figure was what he saw his headlights reflected in their eyes. Panicking he swerved and his tires squealed as the friction locked him. The rear wheels left the ground and he quickly tried to control the bike. Alas momentum was against him as the front left the ground too.

The crash sounded aloud in the streets, a scraping sound and then a thump before there was silence.

The biker lay choking on floor as he fought for oxygen his hands slowly and weakly moving to his head to take the helmet off. A crunch sounded out making him pause. A thought for help immediately flew through his head and left his lips but sounded as a weak croak.

A hiss of pain and then a snap of bones sounded out. He froze a bad feeling in his heart. Did he hit the person on the road. But he swerved was his reasoning. Another snap and crack then a gasp of pain with a cry.

"What the hell" he wondered. He tried pushing him self up to find the source. Whoever it was seemed to have more broken bones than him. But his body refused to move. His hands groped about before stopping on a huge metal on his abdomen. The bike had landed in him.

"Fuck". The single word left his lips silently. A snarl resounded bringing his attention back to his surroundings. Bit then he realized that things were swarming. The halfmoon now looked split and hazy bits of blackness covering it. It slowly encroached on his vision and right before the last spot was covered up he saw it. It was huge. With a golden gaze locked on him jaws open as it reached down to him.

'I hit my head hard' were his last thoughts as something grasped onto his shoulder and tugged hard. The darkness won over and his mind began shutting down even as he felt himself get dragged out and away.
