Chapter 21 - Biyou’s Recruitment

Waking up in the morning, everyone but Chan was hungover. After getting ready, they all planned to meet in the dining area of the inn to get some hangover-curing food.

"Could we get a bowl of rice porridge and chicken stew for everyone," Mo ordered.

The Crimson Reapers were able to get one of the large tables to seat all of their members together.

After receiving and eating all their food, they waited for Ken at the front desk area of the inn.

"How long do we have to wait for him!" said Mo getting impatient.

Waiting for what felt like 10 or so minutes, Ken finally showed up.

"Seems like everyone is ready to go," said Ken when he saw everyone waiting just for him.

"Shut up, let's go already," Mo replied in a snarky mood.

Without having to go and buy supplies as they did so the day before, The Crimson Reapers headed for Biyou.

The 3-day trip came and went in a flash without any mishaps or incidents. Chan and the others finally made it to the Biyou kingdom's territory.

"Finally, we made it. I can smell the money coming in haha," said Mo excitedly.

Making their way into the nearest town to ask about the closest recruitment site for Biyou's army they eventually got their answer.

The closest recruiting site was in Nos. Nos was a city only 2 days away.

They quickly got their supplies and headed southbound to reach Nos.

After 2 days they made it to Nos, The Crimson Reapers left their horses at the stable near the entrance gate. Reaching the gate they were questioned by the guards, "State your name and business.".

Looking at every member, Ken stated, "We are the Crimson Reapers, a mercenary group looking to help assist the Biyou army.", saying that while everyone was showing the guard their badges.

"You're all good, but what about the kid's?" the guard asked, looking at Chan.

"We recently bought him as we need someone to carry our stuff," Ken replied.

Knowing the problems that would arise before heading into any city, Ken and the others would pile something onto Chan.

"Ok you're all good to go," the guard replied.

The difference in the security between a town and a city was vast. Most towns wouldn't have any walls or gates and anyone could come in and out. Cities on the other hand were surrounded by a wall and would have guards either be on the wall or roaming the streets.

Before heading through the gate Ken asked the guard, "Could you help us point out where the recruitment site is?"

"Sure, hey Ti!" The guard shouted for another guard.

Another guard was walking toward the guard who had just shouted.

"You called for me, sir?" asked the guard who had just walked towards Ken and them.

"Yes, Ti since you're about to be off soon could you show these boys to the recruitment site before you head home?" the guard asked the other guard.

"Of course, I can. Only if they don't mind waiting a few minutes for me to change out of the armor." said the guard.

All of the guards had on armor, the armor was a chest piece covered with metal pieces woven together.

"We don't mind waiting a few minutes," Ken replied to the guard.

Following the guard, after he got done changing. The Crimson Reapers were making their way to the recruiting site.

Walking towards the recruiting site, Chan could see a line formed, as others were waiting for their turn to speak to the person in charge of recruiting.

"Ok, here we are, just wait in line until your turn." said the guard as he was starting to walk away.

"Thank you," said everyone in the Crimson Reapers. Patiently waiting for their turn they eventually made it to the front of the line. 2 guys were sitting at a table with a giant book laying in the middle of it. There was also a sign stating, "Recruiting for the upcoming battle.".

Both of the guys weren't in armor and were only wearing suits. The suits were light green as that was the national color of Biyou. The guy sitting on the left had an eye patch on his left eye while the guy on the right had a scar on the left side of his cheek.

The person on the left asked them, "Name and experience?". Ken answered and told them the battles they had partaken in and also stated that they were all ki users except for Chan. Ken wanted Chan to receive a job either with or without him and the others.

"Hmmm, mercenaries with good experience. 15 silver for every member and another 15 silvers for each member that comes back alive. Additional rewards will be given based on achievements. The kid could be an assistant to Qu In as he is looking for an assistant in helping him craft weapons. So yes or no, this is our only offer" said the man on the right.

Ken looked at Chan. Chan told him, "I don't mind, as I knew we were gonna have our goodbyes sooner or later.". Hearing Chan's response and the pay for the job, Ken accepted the offer.

"Good, We will meet here again in a week, as for the boy I will get a guard to escort him to Qu In." said the man sitting on the left.

"Ok," replied Ken.

The man sitting on the left got an escort for Chan. Before heading off with the escort the Crimson Reapers came to talk to Chan.

"I guess this is goodbye then," Ken said.

Holding back some tears Chan told him, "I won't forget you guys as you are a big reason I'm still alive today.".

Noticing Chan's emotions Mo told him, "It's not like we're not going to see each other. When we come back we better receive a nice weapon from you.".

"Maybe you will, maybe you won't haha," Chan replied to Mo.

"You little rascal! But seriously, you can keep the horse as we don't need it anymore. This will be our last gift to you before you head out onto your own path, separate from us." said Mo.

After their talk, Chan rode off to Qu In and waved goodbye to the Crimson Reapers as they slowly fade away as he got further away.

( Clop! Clop! )

"Here we are," the escort told Chan.

Chan arrived at a smithy at the edge of the city. He could see a large amount of smoke coming out of the back of the smithy. On the outside, the smithy looked about the same size as any gas station from Chan's old world.

( Creak! )

Walking inside with the escort, Chan looked around as he was inside. The room he was in was filled with different kinds of weapons and armor on the wall and shelves.

There were also woolded boxes each filled with solely one kind of equipment.

"Hello is anyone there?!" shouted the escort.

A young man, looking to be in his 20s walked out of the doorway in the far left corner of the room. The young man had a good frame, he looked like what you think a person working with sometimes heavy equipment would look like.

Chan could see the guy had black hair and no eyebrows. He had black smudges all over him.

"Yes, are you here looking to buy an item? Said the man

"No, are you Mr. Qu In?" asked the escort.

"No he's my master and he's busy making a shield right now so he isn't able to come out and talk yet." the man answered.

"I'm not here to talk to him, I was tasked by Mr. Min Spo to escort this child here as he heard your master was looking for an assistant. Well since I did my job in bringing him here, I'll take my leave," said the escort as he made his way out of the smithy.

"Wai–" said the man before the door closed.

( Thump! )

Chan was now standing alone in a room with a man he had just met.

"Since it is just us in here, my name is Di Kun, what is yours?" Di Kun asked Chan.

"My name is Chan and Chan only as I don't know my last name." Chan lied to Di Kun.
