I awoke to a world shrouded in darkness. It was difficult to gauge how long I had been in slumber, but upon finally shaking off the remnants of sleep, I realized that it had been many hours.
"Wow..." I murmured, my voice emerging as a low rumble, akin to a car's engine. As I planted my feet on the floor, the sensation felt strangely unfamiliar, as though I were rediscovering the act of standing.
"Hans?" I called, though I doubted he would respond. Squinting in the dim light, I could make out the digital clock, displaying a surprising 8 PM. They certainly weren't sleeping.
My intuition proved accurate as a sudden, jarring noise erupted from my left. Louis emerged, hastily securing a gun into his belt. The loud and unexpected sound had already set my nerves on edge, and now fear gnawed at my insides.
