We arrived home. We were all tired from crying so much so we all went to sleep as soon as we came back. I couldn't sleep though. Not until I find out what killed my aunt.
I stayed up that night and walked around the house for a bit. Until I saw a shadow. It was standing outside the window. A moose. It just stood there looking at me. A cold sweat went down my back and I started shivering. There weren't any moose in this area. It was too densely populated.
Then it looked away and started walking into the darkness. I ran to hide in one of our closets. I was so scared. I swear it looked so intelligent. Then I heard a loud crash. followed by another and another. I could hear hooves walking in the house. Then screaming. I froze I couldn't even breathe at this point. I heard more screaming.
I was the last one in the house. Doors were opening around me, but slowly the hooves receded. After an hour I finally felt brave enough to leave the closet. It was day time by that time. I ran away from my house and I got to my friend's house. I quickly got him up to speed and he decided to hide me. His father was a huntsman so after I stole the gun from his father's study and hid it in my friends closet.
Finally I calmed down and I started talking to my friend.
"I don't know what to do Shawn. My families dead and if I go to any of my relatives they'll find me and kill them too."
"Well, David, maybe we could make a run for it if we headed to the US? I mean there's no guarantee, but I'm sure that the "Meese" hunting you won't have much influence in the US."
I looked at him. Dead in his eyes and I spoke
"Shawn, you don't understand. They'll find me. It doesn't matter where I hide they'll find me eventually. My aunt knew it too. That's why she fought."
He was starting to get scared. I understood why, but we couldn't stop. I was a fool by coming here I'd doomed my friend as well. How stupid of me. Our only hope was going somewhere they couldn't find us. A hidden place that the Meese couldn't get us from.
"Shawn, where can we try to hide or hold against these things. I'm at a loss here. I'm sorry for dragging you into this."
"Dave I don't give a shit. I was getting bored anyways. My guess is we can get to the abandoned metro under Montreal. We can probably hide in there. It's huge after all."
That was a start. The metro would indeed be a great way to hide. It was still day out so I thought it would be safe to leave the house.
"David, look out of the window real quick."
I looked outside his window. In the streets there were people wearing suits. Seemingly looking at the us. I backed away from the window in shock. No way, who were those people? Were they working with the meese?
"Shawn we gotta get out of here, grab your dads car and we're leaving."
"On it David!"
Shawn rushed out of the room and went to the garage. I looked one last time at the people in suits outside before I grabbed the rifle and ran down with Shawn.
