Emmanuel Slacie Memorial Medical Center.
Daytime. A white hospital bed in a white hospital room.
An old man, who is clearly of Japanese ancestry, lies on this bed, awake but still struggling from an illness he is fortunately recovering from.
And then, a man, who is clearly wearing the uniform of the US Army, approaches the man, with the usual squadron of doctors and nurses accompanying him.
The doctor tells him that the military man needs his help in solving the mystery of a rampaging woman as a witness.
As the old man consents to what he will be doing, the military man lights up a flame with a lighter, and he moves the lighter around as the old man sees something unnerving from the flickering flame alone.
He asks him, "What do you see, old man?"
The man can only say in Japanese, still recalling the traumatizing event symbolized by the flame, "Buraidojira! Buraidojira! Buraidojira!"
